Ashworth Out

Clare Farnsworth is reporting that Tom Ashworth has been released by the club. If you have been reading this blog for a awhile, you might be asking, what took so long?

Ashworth was scheduled to earn 2 mil this year, and was probably seen as the 4th tackle. I am interested to see if this was a June 1st cut. Surprisingly enough, Ashworth had some bonus money still being accounted for.

By my accounting, if this was 6/1 cut, it saves the Hawks 2 million. If not, it only saves them about 800k. I am sure more will be revealed.

And thanks to the reader who pointed it out.

UPDATE-- I have assumed it is a 6/1 cut, and updated the Seahawk Salary Spreadsheet accordingly---

  1. I was under the impression the first two players cut count as 6/1 cuts... does anyone have insight on this rule?

  2. Alright now lets man up and sign Crumpler and/or Hackett. We need to preserve our offensive weapons. I would love to resign Niko and Bentley as well but getting Crumpler would make my day. Mike I understand there was some confusion initially with Crumpler signing. Do you think the Hawks are still the favorite as has been reported?

  3. I don't think it has to be the first two cuts, just two cuts can be designated as such.

  4. Here is my new theory on Crumpler. His agent says that the deal is close. Then the agent says no that was an erroneous report. What happened in between...the got his medical results back. I hope i am wrong, but that would explain the complete contradiction by the agent. He can't tell the world that Crump failed a physical

  6. From the STL Post Dispatch:

But the Rams moved quickly to replace Wilkins. Although initial Internet reports saying Brown already has signed with the Rams were a bit premature, Brown has agreed to terms with the Rams and was headed to St. Louis on Friday night to finalize the deal.

Classy, classy move. Here's to him trying to tackle Burly on a kick return and finally getting hurt when he tackles!

  12. If it turns out Ashworth is not a June 1 cut, does anyone think that would imply that the Hawks are saving the designation for someone else, maybe someone with a larger cap hit? There is somebody that comes to mind.

  13. They still have one more June 1st cut they can designate, plus they can actually release players after June 1st and get the same effect.
