According to KC Joyner, whose top 10 overrated list was referenced here at Seahawkaddicts, has placed Bobby Engram at the top of his underrated list. Here is what he has to say....
Bobby Engram, WR, Seattle: After I listed Donald Driver as one of the most overrated players last week, I received a number of e-mails from Packers fans demanding to know who deserved the Pro Bowl spot over Driver. Engram certainly would have been an excellent choice. His 94 receptions, 1,147 yards and six receiving touchdowns were all better than Driver's totals, as was his 9.3 yards per attempt. He isn't thought of as a top 10-15 wide receiver, but his numbers say he was one in 2007.
No doubt Diver doesn't deserve the Pro Bowl nod, there were a lot of receivers not in Hawaii better than him. Bobby had a great year. He has been overlooked for a clean half decade. With the exception of the 2004' Rams playoff game when was he not ultra clutch. However, think about this, when you walk around Qwest on Sundays, how many 84 jerseys do you see? He may be underrated even in Seattle. The case could be made that if Branch is hurt and Hackett walks, Seattle still has its best receiver. END
Don't you mean the 2004 Rams playoff game?
ReplyDeleteThanks Mystic, error corrected. That game, hell that whole season, was a heart wrencher
ReplyDeleteNo, it wasn't an error.
ReplyDeleteThe Seahawks/Rams game was played in Jan of 2005.
It was an extention of the 2004 regular season.
We went to the Super Bowl after our 2005 season. That means we played in the game on Feb 4, 2006. I know, I'm wearing the sweatshirt with the date on it right now.
Amen, bobby's the freakin man baby. who needs hacket when 84 is coming across the middle.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt that Bobby is incredible and that the Hawks without #84 is a less potent offense... but I still think we need Hackett. Obamanu is, in my mind, still unproven and I fear without DJ we take our deepest position last year and make it one of our most shallow, unless we pick up someone substantial...
ReplyDeleteI love Bobby, but if we lose two of our four starting wide outs (hackett and branch) who is going to go across the middle? I know they could move Bobby to ONE of those spots, but he can't play everywhere (which is really too bad, if we had four bobby engrams we could do nothing but four wide sets and no one could stop us.)
ReplyDeleteEngram is simply solid. All business and unfortunately those types of players get overlooked.
ReplyDeleteBobby E is the man!! Doesn't he look like P Diddy a little? haha. I think we need to keep hackett we've been working with him for a few years now and this was suppose to be his breakout year but he got hurt. If we let him walk we'll watch him go off and become a pro bowler somewhere else. SIGN HIM!
ReplyDeleteMarques Colston deserved that pro bowl trip, but regardless, Engram is underrated.
ReplyDeleteToo bad we can't get our own Colston in the 7th round like the freaking saints did. Wouldn't that be nice?
I was referring to the Wildcard game that was at the end of the 2004 season.

ReplyDeleteI live in atlanta and just listened to Alge Crumpler on sports radio this morning. He sounds very confident in himself and says he doesn't have to sell himself at all to other teams. They know what he can do for them, he says, and he also says he will not be a year here, a year there guy. He wants to be somewhere for 3-4 years, where he can really help his team.
ReplyDeleteThey asked him which cities he was going to visit and he told the to "watch the news"...he wouldn't give up anything.
When asked if he had good relationships with other teams, other coaches, he mentioned that he has worked with Dan Reeves and there's tons of his coaches around the league. I waited for him to mention Mora but he did not. He said that "that coach" really set the Falcons back and says he does not utter the coach's name anymore. It was really bad apparently. He did say that he is very involved in the city of Atlanta and really loves it here. So, maybe staying close by is going to affect his decisions.

"That coach" being Bobby Petrino, not Mora.

There's a great post on Seahawks.net about the Hawks freeing up an extra 7.4 mill in cap space:

Zach-- Go look for a post from about three weeks ago called Pork Chop, TD threat.
ReplyDeleteSince we are just doing the best we can to track the cap, I am going to roll with that # until I see different. Thanks for the info Zach, Much appreciated! The Salary Cap Spreadsheet has been updated!
ReplyDeleteThat's very interesting stuff. Thanks for the link regarding the extra cap room. Interesting to see Jerramy Stevens on there. I wonder what his unreachable goal was? Play all 16 games? Not get arrested? Be voted team captain?
ReplyDeleteRegarding Bobby, nice article. I think our team is better every year we have Bobby on the roster. He is a great mentor for Obo, Taylor and Payne. I look forward to hearing how those guys do in minicamp. They'll get lots and lots of touches!

I love Bobby and Matts comfort level with him is not to be dismissed. Nate will get better the more he plays with Matt. I would love to see DJ back, it just seems to me that he is about to play a full year and be the player that we all know that he can be.
ReplyDeleteComparing Engram and Hackett is apples and oranges. Engram is the man, but he is a posession reciever. Hackett is fast, can jump, and plays well at Flanker, SE, and slot positions--but he has yet to play a single injury-free year. (Again, those who said he was injury prone--You were right, I was wrong. He is.)
ReplyDeleteWe need a complement to Engram, someone who can do some of the things Bobby can't. Maybe Burleson will step up, but he's had 5 years in this league, and still runs routes like a rookie. I guess we hope the young guys step up big time.
