This is from scout.com and Sirius NFL Radio personality Adam Caplan's blog from the combine...
UPDATE 5:40 PM EST
League sources told Scout.com that Seattle Seahawks WR D.J. Hackett will likely make it to free agency next week. Seattle is said to be interested in bringing him back but are inclined to see what the market is going to be at the receiver position.
If Hackett does make to free agency as expected, look for teams that run a West Coast offense or are looking for a receiver that has good run after the catch ability to show interest in him.
This seems fair to me. See what the market brings. If someone is willing to pay Hack like he is a 16 game a year stud, then let them. If the market isn't what he expects, maybe he is back. It is very similar to the Josh Brown situation.
Ruskell is going to be very cautious in offering Hackett money, due to the Branch debacle. The sad thing is, the FA WR crop is lousy this year, and Hackett (when healthy) is the best of the bunch.
ReplyDeleteDJ must want a lot more than the Hawks think he's worth, because if he makes it to FA, he is gone. Many other teams are gonna be willing to give him some dough and cross thier fingers that he stays healthy.
I just dont see the Hawks being able to find a number 1 wr in FA or the draft, and none of thier guys currently on the team have shown they are ready.

Michael, what about Weaver? I heard that he is a FA soon as well.
ReplyDeleteI remember when half the people were calling Ruskell stupid for letting Darryl Jackson go...hah! He really set the niners on fire. I think we can live without Hack but only if we get a really great TE who can catch and block.

I don't remember anyone upset with DJack leaving.
ReplyDeleteHe is old, hurt, and drops everything.
Hack, is young, hurt and catches everything.
DJ would definitely be a loss irrespective of his propensity to be injured. No question.
ReplyDeleteI've got to think he is gone. Consider this, Hacket knows at least as well as others that he is injury prone, and is probably thinking about needing money now, rather than later due to the apparent possibility that if he continues down the injury riddled path he is on, he won't be getting much in the future.
ReplyDeleteThis means he goes to FA, and makes considerably more than we are willing to offer him.

I didn't know where to put to this, but the www.seahawks.com site, under multimedia, has a really cool clip on the Tight-End weigh in, at the combine. They looked seriously cut. Sorry I couldn't find a link...

I surely wasn't one of the fans that had a problem with letting djack go. But, the Branch trade was extremely stupid, and yes I said it at the time it was made. And, Hackett could have been extended last year for cheap.
ReplyDeleteIf we're going to try a free agent, we should trade Denver for Javon Walker. The guy has size, speed, and is stud in the WCO.
Most of the discussion about trading Jackson being a bad idea that I recall seemed to center on who he was traded to, rather than simply trading him. I thought it was not a good idea to trade him to a division opponent, and it still may turn out that way. We'll see. Saying that Jackson was a bust in SF last season is, I think, unfair because we have to take into consideration the QB injury situation, the poor OL play and the lack of any other good receivers playing with him last year.
ReplyDeleteRegarding Hackett, Tampa Bay could well be a place he winds up. I don't know all their needs, but WR is certainly one of them.

Maybe he was a just a product of the WCO. didnt help he went to san fran and we got a 4th rounder for him............All this talk about the combine is making me want to crack open a cold one and watch the draft. GO HAWKS
