Hawks Sniffing around Shockey??

Mike Garafolo of the New Jersey Star Ledger is implying that the Hawks were one of the teams supposedly asking about Jeremy Shockey. This is from his blog...
Also, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting former Falcons TE Alge Crumpler is close to signing with the Seahawks. Hmm, I wonder if Seattle nosed around any other teams to see if they were interested in trading their veteran TEs who have been rumored to be on the outs (hint, hint!).
Why not just say it? It has already been released that the Saints were asking about him. Shockey is a handful, no doubt. He would however change the demeanor of this offense. That said, would he claim Holmgren got outcoached if the Hawks lose in NY next year? I think this is the least likely of the three scenarios: Crump, Draft, or Shockey.

  1. Seahawks | Ashworth released

Clare Farnsworth, of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, reports the Seattle Seahawks have terminated the contract of OL Tom Ashworth. Ashworth was scheduled to make $2 million in the 2008 season.

  2. I thought shockey would require a boat load of money anyways?

  3. Re: Ashworth.

Hmmm. Making cap room for a signing maybe?

  4. I would rather have a happy locker room and no distractors than Shockey!
Draft and Alge would be the best scenario.

  5. I am all for Shockey if we don't draft a TE. I would MUCH rather have him than Crumpler. Shockey wants to win at all costs.

  6. I think you can definitely have a personality like Shockey on a character first type team IF you make sure you don't have many of those guys. We, seemingly, have a great group of people/players.

After our losses we seem to have some key guys who don't seem to care that they lost (Shaun and JP come to mind). They laugh and have a good time with the opponents. I know it's got to be exciting to see former college teammates and friends but I doubt I'd be so smug in happiness after a tough loss. At least I wouldn't let it out in the open so much.

I think it would be great to add a guy like Shockey --- he gets pissed when he team loses and when he makes a great/tough catch he gets all pumped up and goes crazy once in awhile while signaling first down --- I for one would like to see a player have passion like that. I'm not saying we don't have guys who don't care (I love guys like Lofa), I just think adding a Shockey would be great.

Crumpler doesn't exactly have the reputation for being a hard worker or great character guy.

I like the idea of Shockey because he is also a good blocker; not just one of the better receiving TEs in the NFL.

I'd be perfectly fine with trading Tru to the Giants for something like Shockey and a 2nd round pick if he is available in trade talks.

I know he's been training in Miami every off-season instead of New York, so I know Timmy would need to make sure he was in Seattle in the off-season. If that's not something he'd consider, well, then stay away from him.

  9. Mike, Any new information on where Crumpler is headed and when he might make his decision?

All this trade Tru for Shockey and a 2nd or 1st is ridiculous. Shockey has a huge cap number, hates Seattle fans and I quote"there is no such thing as the 12th man...", he's not a team oriented guy and he's never played in a West Coast offense. Plus I don't think it would take more than a 2nd at most to get him.

We could trade Tru to the Saints for the #10 pick, that makes much more sense. Or to the Giants for a 1st and a 2nd or 3rd.

There is no reason to trade for a TE when Crumpler is available and there is good depth in the draft.
