UPDATED (6:00PM) FSN is now reporting it is a 5 yr deal. Of course it is. Knew he signed there all along! Danny ONeil is using this report as proof over at his blog, right here.
Ok 12th Men, get them vocal chords ready. In an uninspiring move, Josh Brown has decided the best landing spot is the St. Louis Rams. Good Catch Loyal Readers!
Can't wait to see what the #'s are. The Hawks final offer was 5yrs and 14 million.
Also, if you haven't seen the new page dedicated to situations like this, it is on the left, check it out. This move, and a favorite blog of mine have inspired it. It will update as sports figures earn their place there. To start, Josh Brown is the big winner.
UPDATE-- THE LINK IS NO LONGER VALID, and no one else is reporting this???? Could it be some Rams.com chicanery. Josh is gonna have a hard time if he tries to come back now.
UPDATE-II Seahawks.net is now running with the story, but they appear to have seen the same thing as we have, from the Rams official website. Which no longer exists. Here is the link on seahawks.net.
END OF POST
I say now is a good time to put that Blue Meanies reputation to work. Break a leg.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Holmie is Jones'en for a kicker about now.
ReplyDelete-Major Hit
I have emailed Rob Rang to see what kickers he likes for the Hawks, so I will report back when I get a hint
ReplyDeleteHow does the Hawks final offer of 5yrs and 14 million compare to other top kickers in the league?
ReplyDeleteFor comparison purposes:
ReplyDeleteAdam Vinatieri signed a 5 year 12 million contract when he joined the Colts.
if he were paid 14mil over 5 yrs like the hawks offered, would that make him the highest paid kicker?
ReplyDelete-paulysinm
Piss on him. I can't believe he got so greedy!
ReplyDeleteopps too slow typing on last post. Man, josh brown gets his own tv shoe and then his ego needs to be stroked in addition to being the highest paid? Good riddance!
ReplyDelete-pauly
Yes 14 over 5 would have made him the highest paid already.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet would it be if Linehan took points off the board now!
ReplyDelete5 yrs 14 million to play for a proven winner or a few extra dollars (if he even sees the entire contract) to play for a loser? Josh Brown showed his true colors. Good riddance!
ReplyDeleteSeems like josh was obviously pissed off at something or someone here, and it almost seems like he was making it personal by making the Lambs his home without checking out KC. People say kickers love domes, so maybe that had something to do with it.
ReplyDeleteI"M very dissapointed with Mr. Brown
ReplyDeleteApperantly they love being home in January too!
ReplyDelete404 not found on the link. Wondering if the announcement was premature.
ReplyDeleteSounds like the Hawks tried to do right by him. Oh, well. Kickers are a dime a dozen. I liked Josh when he was here, but I only like you if you're a SeaHawk. Go play for the Lambs, clown, it's obviously where you belong.
ReplyDeleteCan you say dickwad?? I'm not sure which's worse.. Hutch ok'ing the poison pills or AssClown refusing 14-lrg...
ReplyDelete*F* Josh Brown. It really shows his true character....wither that be being a greedy bastard or defecting to the 'Hawks arch enemy. Any team would have payed him the money, but he chose the Rams of all teams.
ReplyDeleteAsshat.
He pisses and moans about wanting best kicker in the league money, when it's obvious he isn't - and then when the 'Hawks go ahead and offer him just what he asked for, he turns around and gives them a hot carl without the saran wrap.
ReplyDeleteYou can count the money that the Rams gave you during the playoffs ... because apparently you're tired of actually being in them.
I'm not worried about replacing him, but I'm still pissed off. I cannot WAIT to scream my fool head off booing that jackass next season.
The link is no longer working. I can't find anyone else reporting this. How Funny! Rams.com might have screwed with us.
ReplyDeletethis is a dark day for the hawks. how about some good news?
ReplyDeleteI'm curious to know what his contract
ReplyDeletethe the Lambs ends up being?
Anyone know?
He's already on the Rams website..
I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled the story until they can do a press conference or something for it.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that no one else is reporting it.
ReplyDeleteI have to believe that if JB is leaving to be a Ram there was more to the story then we've heard. It's clearly a slap in the face to an organization that has [seemingly] treated him very well, and to fans that have treated him as a hero.
When Brown misses kicks, we blame the long snapper. When Brown kicks it to the 20, we blame the wind. When Brown only kicks 22 touchbacks in five years, we blame... hell, we probably assumed the returned just jumped up forty feet and snagged the kick out of the air. Our little Joshie could do no wrong in many fans' eyes.
He will not get that sort of respect in St Louis or, really, anywhere else. I have to believe that if he really is a Ram he'll be sorely regretting it before too long.
Ok, I updated again.. Seahawks.net is rolling with it too. However, it appears that they are using the same source, which I have found is no longer working.
ReplyDeletehttp://sea.scout.com/2/733287.html
This happened w/ brett farves retirement also. I think the teams PR boffins are getting stories ready and then they temporarily post them to see that they look o.k. In the meantime someone spies it. MY guess anyway
ReplyDelete-Pauly
Josh goes to the Lambs - too bad for him.
ReplyDeleteIf Hack doesn't make it back here, let's hope he goes to the 'Whiners.
Then we can win the division AGAIN and let those Bozo's see if being a loser is worth the $2 more in their pocket.
Don't take it personally. This is a business. It's about money. Maybe he got more from the Rams and gets to kick in a dome to boot. Better kicking success in the future means a bigger contract next time etc..
ReplyDeleteI wonder if we have jumped the gun a little here, maybe he is still a hawk? If so we are going to feel a little sheepish...
ReplyDelete-Griffin
Is it just me or is Tampa bring in every FA on the list for a visit.
ReplyDeleteI don't take defections by football players personally, but I do claim the right to feel angered by it. Football is a business only to those who make a living from it. For me, and presumably many other readers, it is a passionate hobby. Without us, and our passion, there is no football business. So screw those guys who leave us fans, behind.
ReplyDelete(And I also claim the right to be a hypocritical fan when I want to cut those guys who gave us their all, but are worn out. Sorry, Shaun.)
Seahawks | Ashworth released
ReplyDeleteFri, 29 Feb 2008 17:19:03 -0800
Clare Farnsworth, of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, reports the Seattle Seahawks have terminated the contract of OL Tom Ashworth. Ashworth was scheduled to make $2 million in the 2008 season.
The reason I get frustrated by these sorts of things is also because the amount of money is not much, and the offer would have made him the highest paid to remain here. I won't feel bad about throwing him under the bus if it turns out to be true because not only would we likely be talking about a few hundred thousand a year, but backstabbing thousands of loyal fans and his teammates.
ReplyDeleteExcellent news about Ashworth! a by-product is that it also the Crump and others we have room to sign them.
ReplyDelete-PaulySINM
Peyton Manning once said, "A kicker is a kicker." It is oh so true. There is 4 very solid kickers in the draft this year. We will get one of them and everyone will love him too. Maybe this kicker can get get a kickoff into the endzone! Poor little Josh Brown is gonna have a hell of an eye opening when he comes visits the Sea of Blue.
ReplyDeletewow....what a lil bitch. Can't wait till we play the rams.
ReplyDeleteAny news on Crumpler?
Peyton said, oh thats just our idiot kicker gettin' liqueured up and running his mouth.
ReplyDeleteDon't be surprised if that "idiot" kicker is the vet they bring in to challenge the rookie during camp.
If Payton wouldn't have had Adam kicking all of those FGs in Baltimore last season, there's now way in hell they beat the Ravens in that play-off game.
ReplyDeleteKickers are definitely important but Brown is in no way as important than he thought he was.
He's probably a top 5-7 kicker and we made him an offer to be the highest paid and he said no. I'm not sure what else he can do... maybe he wants to get closer to his college so he can beat up his girlfriends some more...
I don't see Ruskell bringing in Vandergat (sp?) Mike. Not only is he not a character guy by any stretch of the imagination, and once he moved to Dallas he was horrible! Hell they brought in Gramatica to replace him.
ReplyDelete- Brady
What a douche Brown turns out to be. I'm ok with leaving but going to our rivals for just a liitle more cash. Terrible.. Where's the loyalty??
ReplyDeleteAnd this is NOT Ruskells fault. The deal he offered was more than acceptible
WoW!~!!
If it is correct that Brown turned down $14M for five years, then F him! I guess Josh doesn't watch movies very often. He is going to disappear in the silence of the lambs! I hope Seahawk lights you up when you are attempting to make a tackle after a short kick off against the Seahawks this year.
ReplyDeleteGeez, I actually don't enjoy this time of the year, as exciting as it can be. If there's one good quality to Ruskell in the free agency period it's that he bides his time well. Every year there's the immediate and premature rush of typically desperate teams with lots of cap space who break the bank on one or two players. Ultimately, the contracts such players receive end up crippling certain teams in certain cases, and furthermore, these players have a hard time living up to the contracts (i.e Clements). Ruskell has always shown patience in playing the market and while it can be frustrating watching other teams spending initially, and seemingly improving, although that is debatable, we need to be aware that Tim probably has a long term plan. Pretty much, I'm just trying to get over losing our kicker, although now I'm glad he's gone, perhaps Hackett, and our dire need of a tight end. For my conscience's sake, I would really appreciate some positive, yet realistic, reassurance that the Hawks are gonna be ok. Thanks guys; it's tough being a Hawks fan sometimes
ReplyDelete-Derek
Mike,
ReplyDeleteFill me in on rookie contracts.. Do they go against the cap? Common sense tells me they go against the cap just like the rest. The reason I ask is because during free agency people only seem to worry about the cap with free agency, and never bring up how rookies affect the cap. Understand?
-k
Hey Derek... It's gonna be ok man. The Hawks will soar in 2008!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mike, I know they will. It's just tough with all this action going on and us losing players and the draft so far away. Thanks for keeping us all updated Mike.
ReplyDelete-Derek
I think we(and the media) need to remember that we signed Wahle for 5yrs $20mil. What a great player for a cheap contract. I mean the guys a 94 in madden for christs sake!! LOL Great sign!
ReplyDelete-k
BROWN WILL BE HIGHEST-PAID KICKER
ReplyDeletePosted by Mike Florio on February 29, 2008, 10:53 p.m.
When he signs his contract with the Rams, Josh Brown will become the highest-paid kicker in league history.
According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Brown will sign a five-year, $14.2 million deal, with a $4 million signing bonus.
a lousy $200k.. Tssss
-k
look at it on the bright side,we now have 2 mill. more in cap space.
ReplyDeleteJB can go suck a Ram's nards, thank you.
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable. 200k plus, I am sure, some difference in terms and when the money comes, but still, 200k contract difference send him from the 4 time division champs to the WORST TEAM in the division, and one of the worst in the entire NFL.
ReplyDeleteDolt.
Bring on elam please, they got graham last year now we need to take there kicker, a pretty good outdoor weather kicker i might add. i know he may not have the leg he once did but he had some nice game winners last year and he can step in and be as good as brown was no doubt. By the way brown is a cocky S.O.B., with this and the ashworth cut we can get alge crumpler or hopefully bring back hackett
ReplyDeletei like the idea of drafting a kicker that can kick the ball to atleast the goal line. that was josh's biggest weakness and why i felt he wasnt worth even 2 mil a year.
ReplyDeleteSo, the Seahawks offer him the richest contract for a kicker in the HISTORY of the NFL and he turns it down to sign for a mere $40,000.00 more from a division rival.
ReplyDeleteThe man is a punk and I personally hope he breaks a leg making a tackle next year!
What a punk! Ruskell hurt his feelings, so he signs with our arch-rivals for peanuts more than we were offering...screw you you douche-bag! I hope you never win a playoff game!
ReplyDeleteIm changing my name to joshbrownsucks...
-leshthomas
couldnt agree more.
ReplyDeleteEveryone,
ReplyDeleteHe is a kicker for F-Sake! Relax, the world is not ending. The Seahawks will be in the playoffs next year.......wow, some sensitive feelings for a kicker. Seriously everyone, if we lose Lofa, Matt, Julian, Walter etc. etc. please break out the hankies. But for a damn kicker, you softies have to be kidding me!
