Well, in a ridiculously early 2008 season preview, foxsports.com has predicted the Seahawks to defend their crown and win their fifth consecutive NFC West divisional crown. I agree absolutely. Not so much because I am certain that the Seahawks will fix every weakness, but because the rest of the division remains feeble.
AZ is going to have their hands tied because Denny Green gave his former ball boy turned big time, Larry Fitzgerald, the most absurd contract ever. Also, no way they get that kind of year from Warner again and I believe Lienart will be a bust.
In SF, Mike Nolan is in trouble and Mike Martz's head is going to explode watching DJack drop balls every Sunday. Plus, they lost their only pass rusher to retirement.
ST. Louis could be the real competitor. Everything went wrong last year, if everything goes right this year, and somehow that happens to a couple teams every year, they have the skill players to make it a race. They better get some youth at WR though (haven't we been saying that for years).END-OF-POST
The 49ers suck! Growing up in the 1980s, who would have ever thought their QB situation would be terrible and that the ownership would be worse?
ReplyDeleteI think the Cardinals could make a little noise. They had some injury problems this past year and some key guys were sitting on IR (not Leinert - he sucks). I think they are well coached and actually think they can contend for a play-off spot. I wouldn't be suprised to see Faneca in AZ (ouch!) but after that they are probably too cheep to get many other key guys. One big signing to get the fan base buzzing and then time to pinch pennies for the worthless Bidwell's.
You're right about the Rams. Getting a healthy Orlando Pace back changes that team so much. The Rams line fell apart when he went down. Just like our line sucked after we lost Hutch. Well, Hutch is gone but Pace is back for them. That's great news if you're a Rams fan.
Even though I think the Cards and Rams can make noise in the division, I still think the Hawks are a step above either of them.
However, I'm sick of just being better than our crappy division opponents, I just want to win one damn Super Bowl in my lifetime!

It's not a matter of Arizona being cheap, it's a matter of them literally having zero in cap space.
ReplyDeleteWhen many of your key players were on IR, it matters they get healthy. Cap space has nothing to do with them rehabbing their injuries.
ReplyDeleteI think Arizona will be a contender this year. And I disagree about Leinart, I think he's a good quarterback. The 49ers are cursed by lousy ownership with Eddie DeBartolo's sister and her moron of husband running things. But the Niners took the GM stuff away from Nolan and gave it to McCloughan so maybe things will improve there. Wouldn't be surprised if Holmy ends up coaching there next year. I couldn't care less if that satellite fell on St. Louis. God I hate the Rams.
ReplyDeleteThe 49ers are cursed by bad ownership. The sister of Eddie DeBartolo and her moron husband have run that once proud Franchise into the ground. They stripped Nolan of GM duties and gave it McCloughan finally, that should improve things. I wouldn't be surprised if Holmy winds up coaching there next season.
ReplyDeleteOf course cap space has nothing to do with rehabbing injuries... did someone say it did?
ReplyDeleteI was responding to the fact that he said they were too cheap to get any key free agents..
Let's compare some apples to oranges..
