I will be attempting the 2nd live blog in as many days as the NFLN's coverage of the scouting combine continues. The coverage starts at 11:30am PST. If you don't get NFLN, no worries, the live blog is the perfect place to come and ask about what is going on. If you do get it, stop by and have a laugh about what is going on. I am trying and even better tool, so it should the spot to be from 11:30 to 1:30 on Friday afternoon!
UPDATE-- Blog reader Griffin wanted to pass this on. It was part of the combine coverage we talked about during the first live blog. For those of you who missed, this is a link to an interview with John Carlson and Fred Davis. Thanks Griffin!
Saw this on another forum and thought fellow 'hawk fans would be interested to know about Alge Crumpler news:
ReplyDeletehttp://blogs.charlotte.com/panthers/
"Get ready, Indy. Here comes Alge.
Apparently anxious to meet with interested teams and prove that his knees can still withstand the rigors of playing in the NFL, former Atlanta tight end Alge Crumpler isn’t waiting until next week to tour various cities. He told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution he decided to fly Thursday from Phoenix, where he was working out, to Indianapolis to meet with teams attending the scouting combine.
He said the meetings would begin today and listed seven teams with whom he might meet - Carolina, Buffalo, Detroit, Green Bay, Seattle, Tampa Bay and Tennessee.
As far as the Panthers are concerned, this issue is quite simple. If Crumpler’s knees are sound, he’s worth signing. If not, they’ll take a pass."
I'm still up in the air regarding Crumpler. I'm leaning towards signing him though. We need a TE that can produce now, not a rookie to produce in 2 years.
ReplyDeleteif we have the cap sign him draft a TE 3-4 to replace him in a few years.
ReplyDeletecracks me up to read mock drafts, several have us taking a safety number 1? thinking that is one of our better strengths.
my bet on number 1 if we dont take a RB is either a DT or if by chance he falls to us is the LT jeff otah.
I'm with you Okalahoma, Otah would be a great pick if we were so lucky.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be a poor move to take a tackle at this point for one reason. This team has flaws. If we want to be a SB contender we can not take a player who would not be expected to take the field for several years. Walt is on through 2012 and now Lock through 2013. You prepare as if they will continue to play. If a tackle is chosen is would be later to develop over the next few years for when these players are less effective
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of taking a safety if the top 3 RB's are gone and the safety is the highest rated player available. Play at the safety position improved last year, but I wouldn't consider it a strength. There aren't too many positions on the 'hawks that are off limits. Best player available is a sound strategy in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to agree with Mike on this one, we have flaws, and those can be addressed in two ways, the draft and FA. We have addressed some needs via FA, but we will run out of cap room we were able to fill the remaining needs, notably: RB and TE. These can be addressed in the draft. We might have a shot at Crumpler, this would not mean we shouldn't draft a TE, I think there are some great talents in this years draft, notably: Davis, Carlson, Bennett, and Cottam. We should be in good spirits if we get one of those guys. And at RB, we should be able to draft a good one.

Sorry I left out an imperative piece to my arguement: If we want to be a superbowl contender, our flaws need to be addressed, now, not later.
