Now that it seems like a certainty that Josh Brown will be kicking somewhere else next year. I thought I would do a quick rundown of what is available.
Really, the only free agent worth mentioning is Jason Elam. Definitely an outdoor kicker, he has been in Denver for the last decade. He is 38, and his leg strength isn't what it used to be, however, he hit several game winners last year, ala Josh Brown like. It may be time for him to move on, he has been a Bronco for ever.
In the draft. Here are NFL DRAFT SCOUTS top rated kickers....
Art Carmody, Lou
Taylor Mahlhoff, Wis
Alexis Serna, Oregon St.
Shane Longest, St. Xavier
Others include.... Brandon Coutu, GA--Jeremy Ito, Rutgers--Piotr Czech, Wagner--Conner Barth, UNC--John Sullivan, New Mexico-- and one other K that fans seem to like is Garrett Hartley of Oklahoma. He has a huge leg, but is ranked a little lower.
END OF POST
Hey Mike, what draft picks do we have? I know that Ruskell said we have one in every round except 5 (compensation for Pearman). Is he right? Also he said we would get a compensatory selection, assuming for Hamlin, but he didn't say. Is he right on this? I only ask these questions because it could prove apparent that the Hawks will draft a kicker in the 6th, and a Long snapper in the 7th; both of these would require us having those picks.

ReplyDeleteMore stuff on the Brown exit.
I was pretty impressed with Serna at the Skills Challenge this year.

ReplyDeleteI haven't read the other posts to see if this has already been addressed...but what is Josh Brown's deal? Now it's sounding like he just doesn't like Seattle. Does anyone have any insight into this?
ReplyDeleteI said on a previous thread, it seems as if he got his feelings hurt. He thought of himself as far more important to this team than the front office did. He is clearly going to head for green pastures where he feels he is going to be "appreciated" ala overpaid
