Well, by 1pm today, Leonard Weaver will be tendered a contract. My speculation has been that it will be the 2nd round tender. It is worth that to avoid having another hole to fill. Plus, the screen game really seemed to excel once Weaver was in the backfield more often
Also, cuts. You may have noticed that teams are cleaning up there obligations the last few days. All teams must be under the cap by the time free agency starts. That won't be a problem for the Hawks, but if they want to throw some money around, they may have to free some up. Possibilities include Ashworth, Mike Green, and Jason Babin.
Is Alge Crumpler in town? Is he negotiating with Tennessee?
Finally, at 9pm PST, free agency starts. The Hawks probably won't be sending the jet out tonight, and maybe not even this weekend. However this site will track it all and tell you how signings around the league relate to the Hawks. It is gonna finally be a day with a lot of news!
Michael, you are the man.
ReplyDeleteI'm still not sold on Crumpler - but I admit he may be the perfect fit for one or two years. I just wish we knew where the top three RB's in the draft were going to be.
My guess is this:
1. They sign Crumpler
2. If the 3 RB's are gone, they TRADE DOWN for two second round picks
3. Early in the second round they draft a TE (KELLER or CARLSON?)
4. Late in the second round they draft CHRIS JOHNSON for a speedy alternative to Shaun Alexander.
I would be pretty happy with this - although the best scenario would be Stewart in the first, Keller in the second.
Forgot to add...
ReplyDeleteIsn't it crazy that Weaver was going to be let go during the roster cuts in preseason...and now he's worth a second round draft pick?
That one little decision to keep him on the roster should changed the rest of his life cash wise!
Brian, I would challenge that he is worth a second round draft pick. The problem is that he gets the second round tender or the low tender. The low tender would allow any team to take him by using a poison pill and then the Hawks would get nothing. The second round tender will be used to scare teams away, and then hopefully they will get ink on 3 or 4 year deal
ReplyDeleteMichael - Thanks for this site!
ReplyDeleteQuestion - Which top 3 running backs fit best in the west coast style offense?
I think Brian was saying that he almost was cut prior to the season opener, and now he is going to be tendered a 2cd
