John Clayton is reporting that the expected time table for releasing Shaun Alexander is April 1st. He is still expected to be designated as a June 1st cut which would create a 4.5 million in cap space come June 2nd. This was reported on JC's blog at ESPN insider.
There seems to be several different opinions on the Seahawks cap space. The range seems to spread from 3 million to 9 million. It would seem that the team would be more inclined to take the hit in one year if the number is actually 9 million. Since Clayton is reporting the low end, that is probably why he is adamant that Shaun will be a June 1st cut. Most likely he will be. Even if the team does have space, it is likely that they are trying to create enough space to give Lofa and Leroy mid year extensions. I can hope can't I.....
UPDATE(10:45) Here is an article by Ira Miller at NFL.COM that interviews Mike Holmgren, essentially confirming this story.

ReplyDeleteI continue to think that J.Charles (RB, TEX) is a player we might nab to replace SA, long-term. Hawks staff checked out him and L.Sweed, another player I like here:

Stay, Shaun, Stay!
ReplyDeleteYes we can hope and pray they give new contracts to Lofa and Hill before they hit the market. I just hope they don't try and hold out for the highest paid LB's salary's. Seems to be a trend these days. I don't think they will but ya never know when it comes to the agents.
ReplyDeleteGood stuff Michael.
You know how many times we have seen people say that Alexander will be cut on this date, Alexander will be cut next week, Alexander this, and Alexander that. I think that only Ruskell and his team knows what they are doing. I think a lot of these people are guessing! I do believe that Alexander will probably be cut but none of us really know what will happen until it happens.
ReplyDeleteWell, to my own defense, as one who expected him to be cut. I think we were all waiting after they signed Jones.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first real info on when it will happed since that. John Clayton mostly knows what he talking about.
i think Hill will be resonable, Lofa dosent hit me as the type of person to hold the team hastage.
ReplyDeleteon shaun,he could hsve stsyed if he restructured his deal. will not miss his style of falling down, i mean running.
"on shaun,he could hsve stsyed if he restructured his deal."
ReplyDeleteIs that opinion or fact?
Just wondering.
Shaun's release won't be real to me until it really happens. The rest is just conjecture on the media's part.
ReplyDeleteI'm with idahoseahawkfan on this one.

Since the Hackett pool is over, how about an Alexander pool? Someone should track these predictions guys like Clayton make. April 1st? Why April 1st? Seems like a weird date to choose.
ReplyDeleteI love it! Alexander pool!
ReplyDeleteNFL.COM has an interview with Mike Holgren posted today in which he all but confirms SA will be gone!!
ReplyDeleteI read the interview and it looks like he will be let go soon.
ReplyDeleteMike--why the hell does your link to the Mike Holmgen Interview on NFL.com send me to that shitty blog kissing suzy kolber??!! then that damn blog wont let me reverse back. those guys sound like they sit around drinking and smoking crack and thinking up half-baked smartass comments.
ReplyDeleteDid I mention thier blog sucks vinegary goat balls?!
Because it does. Now fix that link!
Thanks for the tip KSK Hater, the link has been fixed.
ReplyDeleteNow calm down, everyone has the right to sit around get drunk, smoke stuff and think of smart ass comments. I think they are quite funny at times.
Well, in view of the fact that we are on the hook for his pay in one form or another, why not keep SA and have him return kicks and/or punts?
ReplyDeleteBecause he is slow and afraid of contact. Bad combination for a return man.
