All Signs Point to Alge

There is no official word yet, but i am willing to go out on a limb and say Alge Crumpler will be a Seattle Seahawk. I have no inside info, but i am just putting the pieces together.

-His agent was on with Freddy Coleman this morning and said it looked as if it would get done.
-John Clayton said that he felt Crumpler would end up here, it was just a matter of him realizing that there is no mega deal out there. Seattle is the favorite.
-Now Chris Mortensen says the deal is close, despite his ridiculous facial hair. Who does he think he is, Lovie Smith?
-Also, Ruskell cut Ashworth for a reason. While it was inevitable, he cut him because he planned to use the money. There is a handshake deal in place.

For analysis.......

You can't blame Alge or his agent. Originally there was north of seven teams interested. When you get that type of reaction you have to play for a bidding war. It just hasn't happened. Probably because all parties involved realize it is really a two year proposition. At least for solid production. Any team would be smart to pick a tight end behind him, or have one like Joe Newton developing. He doesn't seem to be making that final visit, so I am going to assume he and his family are weighing the pros and cons, but all signs point to him coming back to Kirkland and putting pen to paper. Hawk fans will just hold their collective breath the first time he gets nicked up.

I expect the deal will look something like 4 yrs 14 million, which will work more like 3 years 10 million. They will give him 4 or 5 in a signing bonus and keep the cap hit at around 2 million, which is what they shaved off by cutting Ashworth

Next move... Lets make it work with Hackett. One year deal and another shot at the big money has to be appealing. Clearly his best shot at putting up superstar numbers next year is in Seattle.

  1. Ink him, draft a solid TE in the 2nd or 3rd round (all tight ends including fred davis seem to be falling in draft boards)...restructure shawn and ink tru once market dies down and get maybe a larry triplett. Plenty of good rb's later like forte or rice (4.4 40). Also maybe draft balmer(dt) or baker(OT) or best availabe value first round. I like the moves for The walrus' last yr.

  3. It looks like this gets done lets hope it does. If Alge is a Hawk soon then we better be thanking our lucky starts for TR. That guy just filled our two biggest holes with 2 guys that have 6 pro bowls between them.

  4. Its a good time for the Alge signing. He'll bring something new to the offense. Ruskell will know whether or not Alge has anything left in the tank- heck- he saw him up close not than long ago. Same with Mora. He is no Marcus Pollard. I agree with pretty much everything the first anonymous post said.
Draft the best available in round one. Hopefully Keller or Forte is available in round 2, or Ray Rice. Those three could all contribute in year one.

I really think Tru will get signed. I think this has been posturing to this point and they are just trying to get the best deal they can.

I cannot believe that the Rams paid Brown so much money. He's a nice kicker, and he's beaten the Rams a few times, which is nice, but when you are as bad as they were last year, if you are going to overpay a free agent to come to you- why overpay a kicker?

Hopefully the Hawks will be able to keep Koutie or Bentley.

  5. If we sign Crumpler do we go hard after a RB or do we still look to draft a TE. As I said earlier it seems everyone is forgetting about Joe Newton on our practice squad. The guy can play. Granted I haven't seen much, but I like what I saw. I say trade Tru! 2 first rounders seems a no brainer. That 9 mil is slowin us down in FA. All the mock drafts have us pickin a TE from Pudue. Does that change with Crumpler?? YeeHawks

The way this was worded it kinda sounded like Coleman had his own show. Sorry I'll put down the hawk koolaid now.

  10. I don't agree with those of you that believe we can get 2 first round draft picks for Trufant. Sure, that's what may be demanded, but what is offered is a completely different story. After seeing the deal that Samuel signed, I don't know why anyone would give up 2 firsts AND give someone $9-10 mil/year. Just not going to happen.

  11. Yeehawks,

I feel, if we get Crumpler a TE will not be drafted until round 3 or 4. With Crumpler, we are afforded an opportunity to develop a TE instead of drafting one to start. That being said, I wish and hope we get Utech instead.

I also don't think Trufant will warrant a first round selection. Maybe we can get a early 2nd round for him thus having 2 x 2nd round picks. That being said, defense wins championships and if we lose Trufant our defense takes a huge step back.

My hope....sign Trufant to a 5-6 year contract to take less of a hit on the cap. RESIGN DJ!, Fix the sh$tty RB situation (hopefully Mendehall slides to us, but doubtful). And finally, draft or sign a DT. All this above equals atleast a trip to the NFC Championship.

  12. Opps I must have typed that while listening to Total Access when i was typing that. It is Freddy Coleman, the post has been changed. He by the way is an ESPN radio guy.

  13. If any of us were NFL general managers, there's no way in hell any of us would give the Seahawks two number one picks for Trufant. Plus, we'd still have to pay him that much money.

  14. I offer for your consideration Rick Mirer (who Chicago gave up 2 1st rounders for) and Joey Galloway who Dallas gave up 2 1st rounders for.

Do not be surprised if somebody doesnt sign Trufant to a fairly hefty offer.

  15. i'm betting we could find 2-3 that would pay that price or maybe a 1st nad 2nd.

  16. mirer was actually traded for the #11 overall and a 4th. here is an interesting read about it:http://www.iis-sports.com/draft/team/mirer.html

  17. Yes we got two first rounders for Galloway. But, we got ONE first rounder for Mirer. He wasn't tagged as a franchise player.

  18. Sorry Mr. Snuggles, you'd beat me to it.

  19. My bad on Mirer, I knew we had gotten 2 picks for him. The point of that post was that Mirer was a complete bust, Galloway was a decent player.
Trufant is likely a better player relative to position, than either of them. I expect that some of the losers in the Assante Sammuel chase might be calling his agent and having words.

  20. If we can get two #1s for Trufant, do it. But nobody is that dumb this day and age. The salary cap and an even more dependence on the draft (except for Washington) makes it almost impossible for a team to want to give up two #1s.

If Dallas were dumb enough to trade up their two later round picks for Tru, that would be great.

There would probably be enough ammunition to trade up to get Mendenhall and then still something left over.
