Brown Scared of 12th Man

I just thought I would pass this on, since it is such a polarizing issue. Here is USA Today's take on how the Hawks will regret the loss of their kicker. Yup, we are all crying in our lattes this morning. The funny part is what Brownie has to say....

"I was kind of nervous about another team in the division and I was like 'I'm going to get massacred by the Seattle fans now.'

Yes you will Josh, Yes you will. Whatever, I am already a little tired of the legs on this story. Brown also states in the article that the Seahawk's offer was misleading and backloaded. Who cares? The more and more I look at it, kickers are not a big deal. First off, score touchdowns! Second, if Nick Folk can come in and nail game winners for Dallas, I trust the Hawks to find a good kicker.

Rob Rang told me to keep our eye on the kicker from Wisconsin, Taylor Mehlhaff. He says he has a huge leg on kick offs, and his accuracy has improved. Apparently he looked pretty good ath the combine as well. He guessed he would be a 5th or 6th round pick.

UPDATE-- You guys should check out DKSB's take on this.... He is arguing that this defection is worse than what Hutch did. Go weigh in!

  1. We'll see how funny you think it is when whoever his replacement is starts missing field goals in the winds in Qwest Field, and at the end of games where Brown used to win them. I'm sure you'll get a real chuckle from that.

  2. He is a kicker! We let Kasay go, he was good with the Hawks. We let Lindell go, he was good with the Hawks. Kickers dont win you games. The difference between the middle of the road kickers in the NFL is not much and thats where Browns stats put him, middle of the road. It is just a kicker. I bet if you had the Rams put together a list of players that they would want from the Hawks, Brown would have been at the bottom. He is only a kicker!

  3. Hey Rams fan,

Brown is just a kicker on a shitty team.

  4. Its not like the guys who kick in Buffalo and Cleveland and Chicago are kicking in better weather and they seem to do fine. Seems like kickers can be found fairly easily by decent talent evaluators.

  5. We have a 6th round draft pick, we'll probably use it on a kicker. The kicker will be a little less accurate than Brown, but significantly better on Kick-offs, which most people don't ever seem to look at with Brown...and then we will have the 2mil per year we were going to give him to sign someone else.

  6. It's looking more and more like the Jets have nabbed Faneca, which is fine with me...it would suck if the rams or the niners got him.

    Mike,

Why do you think there doesn't appear to be much interest on the DT Tripplet?

  7. Crumpler sighting.

    Found this on TNT board:

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reporting the Hawks are close to signing Crumpler (again).

  8. Adam Schefter just said he doesn't think Crumpler is healthy.

  9. Here is why the Lambs keep regressing. I just pulled this from an SI article...."Coach Scott Linehan said the Rams' front office was unanimous in its assessment that Brown was the best free agent available at any position." OK, Scott, I hope you and Josh invite me to the wedding.

  10. hey has there been any news about michael turner? i haven't heard his name mentioned in a single rumor. Obviously we don't have the money, but i would love to see him in hawk blue next year.

  11. Man I hope Schefter is wrong which does not normally happen. He is on a short list of guys that reports usually lead someplace. Mort is also on that list Clayton lets hope Adam's wrong.

  13. Crumper's agent is obviously trying to get as much press as he can for himself ... and is more concerned with hisself dan his client.

All those agents are always fishing for new clients ... especially with the cattle auction coming up.

"The Bus", a certain Mr. Bettis, used to be the only bus to get on.
Now agent "Bus" Cook has the name franchise and will make any stop.

Crumpler passed physicals in both Tampa and with the Titans, and, probably with the Hawks.

And, MS, I thoroughly disagree on your point on kickers. Too many games are won or lost by these entities who are so easy to evaluate and not worth much.

Special teams are vital to success.
Tynes? Why I've never heard that name before. Who he?

If it is so easy to find them, just look at the lost highway full of names that glowed for a moment then disappeared.

  14. Thanks for the dap, MS. I should add another point...

I'm also a Red Sox fan (since 1985... so don't give me that bandwagon crap), and I was mad when they traded Nomar.. I was madder still when Johnny Damon left for the hated Yankees.

You know what made me feel better? Two mother-humping World Championships.

I'm convinced that just like the Cylons, Ruskell has a plan. The plan is to win XLIII, and I'm sure getting into a bidding war for an above-average kicker wasn't on the checklist.

Thanks for all those game winning kicks, JB... Too bad your new team won't be putting you in that position very often.

  15. You know what is different about this blog? Mike actually gets fired up when some "anonymous" person talks Sh*t.

I live in D.C. and have season tickets to the beloved Hawks. Every game I have been to (atleast once a year) in December the only weather I experience is rain. Hardly any wind, not one snow flake, and temperatures in the mid-30's. If you can't kick here, you can't kick anywhere. After tonight, I hope I never hear "hot pants" Brown's name mentioned in this blog again. Good bye, good riddance, and you will be replaced.

  16. crap...different should be difference.

  17. um, I hate to say it, but the level of bitterness we show validates Browns nacrissism.
