According to Adam Schefter of the NFL Network. No word on terms yet, or what may have changed. This severely limits the tight end options on the market. Not sure where the Seahawks will go, other than the draft.
I was flat out wrong about this. I posted last night that all signs were that he was headed to Seattle. Clare Farnsworth stated earlier that insiders thought Tennessee would up their offer. That may be what happened. I will be interested in seeing what the numbers are. Maybe after Ben Hartsock went to Atlanta, Tennessee had to make a move at that position.
Something obviously happened during Alge's visit here. He was in negotiations and then he was flying home. It could have been money, it could have been test results. We may never know. What we do know is that it is time to start discussing the draft class again, as TE will be a high priority.
UPDATE-- Get this, according to Titansradio.com, Crumpler's agent, Butch Williams is denying the report. He says no deal is signed yet and that the two teams only talked. Apparently he is denying the report about Buffalo being involved as well. This guy is great. He was the one quoted as saying the deal with Sea was close, then denied it. Schefter usually gets his info from agents so my guess is that is where he got his info, but Williams is now denying it. This guy is just pushing the envelope waiting for a big money offer that isn't coming. Here is the Link

lets make a trade for utecht

ReplyDeleteTru for Shockey
ReplyDeleteI'll be willing to bet anyone that Warrick Dunn becomes a Seahawk and $haun is shown the door.
ReplyDeleteNo way Dunn is kept in Atlanta after the just signed Turner and already have Norwood. Ruskell loves the character first Dunn. He was with him in TB and Atl.
It's not fun going into next year with either a crappy tight end or a rookie starting at tight end for us. Either way we're going to have horse crap producion from the tight end position again this year. Fun, fun, fun.
bobbyk
lets hope Newton steps up
ReplyDeleteuggh. what a terrible offseason so far
ReplyDeletewhat are you gonna do front office? give us something good
What is the obsession with Joe Newton? Have we seen him play? If i remember correctly in the preseason he blew blocking coverage and dropped a couple of balls. It is like Ray Willis love, we haven't seen him perform and he could not beat blah players for playing time. Who did he have to compete against? The ancient Pollard and the ok but nothing special Will Heller.
ReplyDeleteHow about this crazy idea...Leonard Weaver at TE like he was in college and we draft FB Owen Smitz(or whatever his name is). Crazy i know but not at all unfeasable.
Screw you Crumpler. Your old news anyway.
ReplyDeleteThe Front Office CAN'T do anything! Why does everyone keep blaming the FO?
ReplyDeleteIf you only have around 3 to 5 million in Cap space and you are competing against teams with 30-40 million in Cap space you are already going in to every situation with a losing hand and the other side just drew two aces.
Blame Tru for refusing to negotiate anything short of a 10 million per year deal with 25 million guaranteed.
Trade TRU NOW!!!!
THis is bad news for Seattle but we will be OK. You can't overpay for an old man. We will get a TE in the draft and then draft Ray Rice in round 2, end with Oregon States K in round 6.
ReplyDeleteDJ Please come back. We want us and Hasselbeck can turn you into a 50 Million $ Man. I don't think Garcia or Grossman can do that for you.
Utecht is another smart choice. However I know Matt is very dissapointed.
WHEW!
ReplyDeleteThis is good news. He would have been dead money, this guy is not what he used to be. I bet the titans offered waaay to much. I want to see the numbers!
Dunn...I dont know...Seems a lil wierd to me that the hawks are looking for a runningback in FA, does this mean they are not looking for it in the draft?-Maybe
Dustin Keller first round, just you wait.
No News is good news.
ReplyDeleteCrumpler is 30, was below average last season. According to Football Outsiders DPAR he ranked 21st in the league (6.9) that's about the same as Michael Gaines...who??? Plus there has been some concerns about nagging injuries.
Oh and the QB's were not the problem in Atlanta. Both Joey Harrington and Chris Redman were above average last season and Byron Leftwich didn't take enough snaps to make a difference.
Crumpler is entering the downside of his career, I'm sure he's got some gas left in the tank, but not enough to throw big money at.
I was not excited about the prospect of Crumpler anyway, so this is almost non-news.
ReplyDeleteAs for trading Tru for Schockey, PLEASE tell us you are kidding..
Now if New England (who own the #7 pick overall from SF) call about a better deal than 2 1sts, we tell them sign Tru, we will take your 2 1sts (#7 this year plus next year) and then trade the 2009 pick back to you for a 5th rounder in 2008.
They get a CB we get a dammed good player at #7 and still have out own pick #25 plus now have a 5th rounder even if it is an ugly one.
I'm actually happy they didn't overpay a TE on the backside of his career. I don't know what the thinking is in the Hawk war room but I would love for them to make a run at Ben Troupe, a high risk/high reward type of player who won't cost a whole lot and then pair him up with either a Dustin Keller or Martin Rucker type in the draft.
ReplyDelete@NE trade idea for tru, I think that would actually be a good deal for both teams.
ReplyDeleteTroupe, Keller, and Rucker are all the same player. The needed to be paired with a bigger body who could dominate the point of attack on runs
ReplyDeletewhy the hell would NE want trufant?
ReplyDeletethey could have kept samuel for the same money trufant wants AND kept the #7 pick in the draft so why would this make sense for them?
i know they need a corner, but it's stupid for them to let a corner leave for free and to give up a first rounder just to replace that former corner. New England wins for a reason and it's not because they do stupid things like this.
Since Crumpler is gone and we cut Ashworth, it seems the FO still may have some guys on the radar. I have heard rumors about Rex Hadnot, but how come there has been no discussion about Jake Scott from indy, he is a local and a heck of a pass blocker. If we had him and Whale our OL would be reminiscent of '05. Then get David in the 1st or take Stewart if he falls, then a DL in the second. If the OL solidifies next year with solari, I think that SA can have one last big year, he knows he will be cut if he doesn't.
ReplyDeleteI like Scott at right guard, but Solari seems kind of like a smash mouth offensive line guy (Shields could pull, yet play smash mouth)... and I don't think that totally fits Scott's style.
ReplyDeleteWell, lets see what happens. I'd like to sign Crumpler for a reasonable deal. Matt would too!
Anyone who thinks Crumpler is Marcus Pollard all over again is trippin. True Crumpler isn't the player he once was, but he wouldn't need to be the first option here.
ReplyDeleteCrumplers numbers last year:
42 Rec 444 Yards and 5 TD's
Jerramy Stevens numbers from 05:
45 Rec 554 Yards and 5 TD's
Thats the exact amount of production you're looking for out of your TE. Crumpler is more than capable of that this year, even in TEN (if true).
you have got to be kidding me....that agent is driving me crazy.
ReplyDeletecrumplestilskin sign here matt would take you deep
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how terrible reporters have become. There is constant speculation these days about new reports just so they can "break" a story... yet it seems more times than not that the're wrong...
ReplyDeleteJohn Clayton is reporting this is a done deal.

YungHawk
Looks like ESPN, SI, and NFL network are all using the same "source", but the agent denies a deal is done, and says that terms haven't even been agreed upon.
ReplyDeleteSeems the Titans offered him a contract today, but that the agent isn't letting Carlester sign on the dotted line until he sees if the Seahawks will sweeten the pot a bit.
Of course, I meant Alge, not Carlester! Ha, I was just reading an article about the family, oops!
ReplyDeleteThe agent for Alge Crumpler says his client has not agreed to or signed a contract with the Titans.
ReplyDeleteTitansRadio reports the deal was to be for two years and $5.25 million, with a $1 million signing bonus. It's being reported by ESPN and the NFL Network. "Where did you see that report?" the agent said. "We talked on Sunday, lets put it that way. He has not signed a contract nor agreed to anything."
Alge is old and broken down anyway, just like Marcus Pollard. Why not seek a solution that will last longer than two years? A good, young prospect may be just as productive as Crumpler anyway -- AND a lot cheaper to sign and keep on the team for years. (Just look at what guys like Lofa are making right now -- and he was a second rounder!) Don't panic, 'Hawks fans. It's going to be OK.
ReplyDeleteDon't even think about Shockey for this team. Whoever suggested that must not have been paying attention over the last several years. Shockey is like a combination of Brian Bosworth and Koren Robinson. Troubled, unreliable, selfish, hot-headed and "all in it for me." Don't touch that guy!
