According to the The Vindicator, a newspaper in Youngstown, Oh, West Virgina DT Keilen Dykes has a visit scheduled with the Hawks. He will also be meeting with several other teams prior to the draft including the Patriots, Vikings and Cardinals.
Dykes is a 6'4" 306lb giant, who NFL Draft Scout rates as the 15th best DT. He is currently projected to be drafted in the 5th or 6th round. He was given all Big East honors his senior year.

How can he be a giant if he's only 6'4 and 306?
ReplyDeleteI've never understood how the process works, as far as who gets invited to the combine and who doesn't.. but I know it costs some of these players a lot of hype which occasionally translates into a lot of dollars..
well giant compared to....our guys.
ReplyDeleteAnybody realized that Lofa's number is 12 in the mirror. Just an observation.
ReplyDeleteHe is a giant compared to most of us, and I was struggling to find an adjective. So you get what you get...
ReplyDeleteLooks like he could be one of those late round steals. Dykes has some impressive workout numbers. He ran a 5.08 forty and he's over 70 on the Pat Kirwan method of screening people for explosion and power.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a link handy but the Kirwan formula adds up the scores for the vertical, bench, and broad jump and looks for numbers over 70 to screen for guys who have enough expolsion and power to play in the NFL. Dykes' 29 inch vertical, 8'10" broad jump and 33 reps put him right at that cut-off point.
Plus he's a smart guy and smart football player ... he's already graduated.
ReplyDeleteLooked good in and leading up to East West game.
And don't blame MS for the "giant",
that's how draft scout printed out what was probably a press release from the W Va athletic department.
His biggest disappointment in his career was not being invited to the combine.
That could be good for us or somebody else as a late rounder.
Hey FB Owen Schmitt and DT Dykes from WV ... tooooooo baaaadddd.
