With out a contract. Here is the entry from Darin Gantt at the Rock Hill Herald about the situation.
He seems to think that DJ's trip out east was just for show and that he is trying to come up with a figure for the Seahawks to match.
I don't know what the Panthers offered if anything, but John Clayton said on KJR this morning that the Redskins only offered him a deal for the veteran minimum and Tampa didn't make him an offer at all. Hopefully the front office can work something out with him, because the complete lack of serious interest in him this offseason may be just the thing he needs to tough it out a little more. If he stays on the field, I truly believe he has pro bowl potential.
By the way, just for you interest, for all those who entered, the lowest offer submitted in the contest was 3.25. There was also a 6.4 above that. Those are looking pretty good right now. For those with much larger offers, if it is any consolation, I thought he would get PAID too. END

Nice Headlines.....I bit!!!
ReplyDeleteIt seems like he might sign here anyway though huh. That would make Ms. Addict very happy. Specially since she got a DJ jersey last year!
ReplyDeleteHe's gotta re-sign now!
ReplyDeleteThis is your home DJ!!! Stay healthy and take that big step forward with the Hawks in 2008! Then cash in somewhere else in 2009.
Looks like my hope of getting a 1st and 3rd for Tru are out the window. Raiders only gave up a 2nd for D. Hall (per Mort)
ReplyDeleteAre the Raiders going to be good this year?? I can't figure it out. Heads are sure gonna role if the aren't. Apparently Hall is getting Samuel money.

ReplyDeleteWow, only a 2nd for Deangelo Hall and no other picks. That baffles me, I expected the Raiders to pay a 1st! But guess what, they now have to pay 2 CBs Asante or Clements money! They also picked up an oft injured DT. They seem poised for a nice 5-11 that will end with a Lane kiffin suicide after Al Davis decides he will control substitutions. Who does not feel bad for Lane Kiffin?
ReplyDeleteOn the DJ note, sounds good and bad. How could he garner so little interest? Are his legs attached to his body? Hopefully he will sign a vet min based on playing time. i think he has great potential but something scares me if so many teams are scared of him. Tampa did not offer anything? They have so much cap room and need receivers and did not even give him lunch money? There is something we fans do not know about him
Andrew-
ReplyDeleteI think there are two factors that play into the DJ situation. One, he hasn't shown he can stay healthy. Would you pay big money on a guy that hasn't proven himself as a consitant contributor? Second, he doesn't want to leave Seattle. He's mentioned that and the only way he would leave is if someone gives him a bloated paycheck. I believe if he got an offer by the Hawks that was close to any other offer he'd stay. It's his home and he was just after leverage. Maybe the FO knew that and is why they haven't given him the attention he deserves. Either way I'm happy it's looking like he will be coming back. Now we can focus our attention else where in the draft and fill the few holes we have left. I would hope for J-Stew in the 1st and Keller in the 2nd. Might even consider trading up for that if needed, could be a good use of Mo. I'd be happy with Balmer or Merling in the 1st if they dropped and J-Stew didn't.

Andrew, I think Hackett simply wants to play for Seattle next year, and he will not change his mind unless he gets offered a 1 or 2 mil. base salary. Tampa prob. offered him something, I don't see why not. But he put it down, like he did in Carolina because those quarterbacks suck! His best chance to get the dough rolling next year is to play with Hass. and put up numbers.
ReplyDeleteI think he will play with incentives, he the guy we need to really step up next season, and although I doubted it early on, I think he is now for sure coming back, and it is a win-win situation for us. We get a 7th WR, good depth. We get a possible #1 receiver, the ability there but not the health. And if the FO sees him exploding this season, he could become a RFA and get a long term deal. He is cheap, there isn't much to waste on him is he willingly comes back and makes up his mind to play his brains out!
just sign him hawks, he's a great weapon if he's healthy
ReplyDeleteWhat's going on with a kicker and snapper? While they aren't the single most important players on the team, the sickening feeling of messing up those snaps stills lingers...and missing field goals will also suck. ARe they doing ANYTHING to get some good ones?

I also think that if he comes back for the year, Branch might be put on IR so that he can recover from his injuries. Therefore we can also see what our basket of young WRs can do. I am uber excited about this upcoming year.
ReplyDeleteBranch is out for awhile anyways. Don't think DJ dictates that much.

No Andrew No!! AAAGGHHH! You used the word "Uber"!! Bleaaaaahhh!! that word should be banned from the universe.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope DJ sings with the Hawks. We need a home-run threat, and he is all we have. I dont care what Ruskell thinks, Im not wanting to take Engram and Burelson and a stable full of young wr with no experience and lean on them to get us to the Super Bowl.
I am baffled that the Eagles havent called DJ, or the Bills. I was an idiot and thought Hackett would sign with Buffalo (forgetting they have no QB) for 4 years 12 mill. I sure aint winning the swag! Shows how freaking much I know!

I guess this means that the Raiders almost have the greatest trio of CBs in the history of the NFL.
ReplyDeleteThey will still suck though.

I love it! Sounds like if we sign him to a 1 year or even 2 year, it wont significatly hurt the cap cause the offers just arent there! And now there is another position we wouldnt have to worry about in the draft.
ReplyDeleteknutson_11
I was over on the Panthers message boards just seeing what, if anything, they knew.
ReplyDeleteThe fans still think that they have a chance because Hackett's agent gave them the idea that DJ really wants to play for Carolina.
They think that DJ will now just hear what Seattle has to offer and then he'll sign with Carolina by Monday.
Sounds like he and his agent are doing a great job of creating a bidding war where none exists! But if they can manage to get Carolina and Seattle to think that they are going to have to outbid each other, then maybe DJ gets closer to what he thinks he should be paid.

I would love to sign him for a few years but I am OK with 1 or 2. I think he can play pro bowl ball. I would like to see him have a contract with incentives. I think he wants to stay in Seattle, he is not a fool. You think he saw what happened to another DJ today. The grass is not always greener! Happy St. Pats Day
ReplyDeleteI hope DJ fortified himself with some good food on his world tour and is back to sign with us.
ReplyDeleteI think the lack of interest speaks to the fact that every team knows DJ really wants to stay with the Hawks.
DJ has something to prove now and I'd like to see him achieve his full potential while still wearing the blue and teal.

The Seahawks are not Blue and Teal. I know the National Media doesn't pay attention to our team enough to know the colors
ReplyDeleteI've seen the color in question referred to in our local media as "teal" which is much preferred to "that green color that defies description."
ReplyDeletePerhaps "green on acid," would be more apt?
