I must say I have a little more upbeat take on this one. Pete Hunter, yes, that Pete Hunter also found a job yesterday. Pete was signed on by the Dallas Desperado's of the AFL.
Seahawk fans will always be indebted to Pete Hunter, who left his lovely mortgage broker business (probably a good time to get out anyway) on the hill overlooking the Cowboys practice facility, and stepped right in and helped limit TO and Terry Glenn as the Seahawks beat Dallas in their 2006 Wild Card Game.
That game, in my opinion was one of the most exciting games I have ever attended. It also included one of the most athletic plays I have ever seen, when Lofa negotiated a pile of bodies to catch a fumble and then threw it under his left arm to a moving target in Michael Boulware. Oh so close to a touchdown, but he was barely touching the sideline. Great game, and because of it, I will always think fondly of Pete Hunter. END
Way to go Pete Hunter. I also thought that was one of the most exciting games I've ever been to besides maybe the Hawks,Giants game when Feeeley missed three FG's. Correct me if I am wrong but didn't Pete have an interception in that game but the play was wistled dead? I seem to remember something like that happening.
ReplyDeleteHe recovered a Jason Witten fumble
ReplyDeleteGreat Call Mike, and the Hawks did the right thing by giving him a fare shake the next season. Good luck Pete
ReplyDeleteThat game was especially sweet since we are originally from Texas and we can't stand the Cowboys. Some friends back in Texas, who are HUGE Cowboy fans, were calling us to talk smack all day, as well as during the game. Calling them after the game was priceless. Sending them youtube snippets of Romo's crash and burn was equally satisfying.
ReplyDeletePete Hunter was part of the story of that very exciting game and will always be associated with that hard-won victory.
Do well, Pete!
Thats right i thought it was something like that. He contributed to the success of the Hawks for that game and I hope he does well. Hell, I know I would rather be playing football than being in the Mortgage business. Right now anyways....
ReplyDeleteThank you for brining up the Lofa play in the endzone. That was just a frickin amazing play, even though it didn't really count. I still get completely stoked thinking about it. Just how everything came together and everyone is out there putting all they got into it.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, Awesome game.

Wasn't that also when Lofa stopped Whitten on the 1 yardline...by turning his hips and getting JUST enough leverage to stop him from from moving another inch forward?????
CLUTCH!
i thought pete played pretty well in the divisional round against chicago the following week, as well, even though we lost a game we should've won.
ReplyDeleteI believe Pete Hunter was signed late in the 2005 season, and played (well) in the Super Bowl, but maybe all the stress in my life has melted my brains and it was 2006...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I remember he forced/recovered a key fumble, and played very well considering he had less than a weeks practice and was playing in the NFL...
Good for you buddy, I hope you become a starter...or at least a Babineaux...

Hunter did have a big INT in the Chicago game, near the goaline (but Hass threw it right back next series)
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the update. He'll always be one of my "sentimental favs" an fond memories of this franchise - it was just a cool story how he stepped in so quickly and really played well.
Given that he at one time was a promising player who had simply had a bad injury, I was always a little suprised/disappointed that he couldn't hang on here past '06. But I wish him luck in the future, and maybe one day he can make it back to the NFL.
