More on Chris Cooper

Here you go bmsnyder. Ask and you shall receive...sometimes. Here at Seahawk Addicts we are all about the readers. You want more Chris Cooper, you get more Chris Cooper.

Cooper is 6-5 280. He is kind of a tweener. He played LB for the Cards but will fit into the rotation at DT/DE for the Hawks. He is 30 yrs old and went to college at Nebraska-Omaha. For your scouting report....

First off, here is the ESPN article about his release.

Here is a report by the PI about him from training camp that year.

2007 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.
Grade: 43 | Key
Alert: None

Comment: Cooper is a journeyman backup player who has played seven NFL seasons. He is primarily a defensive end but will align at tackle on passing downs, but is not a great player at either position. Upon being waived by the Seattle Seahawks in 2006 he was signed by the Arizona Cardinals and did not fare much better in his production in Seattle. He lacks functional strength and power at the point of attack against bigger offensive linemen and is easily engulfed and knocked off balance when playing in the trenches. Cooper is not a speed rusher and struggles getting upfield, though he is a competitor and will not quit. He is not a front-line player who will add overall upgrade value to a team.

  2. I saw Chris in pre-season action and I was very impressed with him. I was disapointed that the Seahawks let him go but I understood it was part of the business. I think that he is a good back up but I would be leary of him taking over. Overall this was a great signing for our team. He can be a great tackler but he does struggle getting up the field during kick offs.

  6. Profootballtalk.com reports that Trufant has signed a longterm deal with the Hawks

  7. Anonymous is right, profootballtalk has an article about Trufant signing a six-year contract worth $50.2 million. Get on in Michael. Woo Hoo!

  8. Yeah, they have his contract as a six-year contract worth $50.2 million. The deal includes $20 million in guaranteed money, and will pay $28 million over the first three years and $34 million over the first four. Hmmm... wonder what the breakdown is and how it affects our cap this year and next? So much for a team player taking a cut to help sign Hill next year. Could spell trouble, but TR always pulls something out of his ass.

  9. According to PFT, Trufant has signed..

    ‘HAWKS SIGN TRUFANT

The Seattle Seahawks have engaged in another transaction . . . and it’s still not the release of 2005 NFL MVP Shaun Alexander.

This time, the ‘Hawks have inked cornerback Marcus Trufant to a long-term deal.

Per a league source, Trufant agreed early Wednesday to a six-year contract worth $50.2 million. The deal includes $20 million in guaranteed money, and will pay $28 million over the first three years and $34 million over the first four.

The deal also includes a $3 million 2010 roster bonus that is guaranteed for skill and injury, which as a practical matter makes the first three years — and the $28 million that comes with it — guaranteed.

Trufant had been given the franchise tag in February. Of the 12 franchise players in 2008, Trufant is the second to sign a long-term deal. The first was Colts tight end Dallas Clark.

  10. Seahawks.net just confirmed it. What an awesome week for all of us Seahawk fans. I really believe Tatupu led the way when he signed.

  11. How in the hell can Trufant look Lofa Tatupu in the eyes?! There is no way, even in a parallel universe, that Tru is worth more money than Tatupu. Ridiculous!

End of whining. Im frigging stoked that Tru will stay a Seahawk! And he can freaking rework his contract in three years, or else get dumped like Shaun is about to be.

Although, I wonder if this means they have the cash to go through training camp with SA on the team?! Wait and see how he does with the reworked line?! Maybe if he plays well for us this year we can get a third round pick for him! Hey, with Tru and Lofa signing, my optimism is running high!

  12. Slave, I agree with you! Tatupu is worth way more than Trufant is!!!!

  13. I'm loving the fact that we haven't lost any starters on D. Can only improve with other transactions. Now that we have Tru we can get a DL in the draft and focus more on improving the O. I think that we have some real contension here. Thinking that the #9 power ranking is a little underrated now

  14. I am pleased with the deal. I can understand that a little under $10 Million a year to help keep our defense together. I am excited to see who we go after in the draft. I like the DT's coming up this year. If we lock down the D-line and get the Offensive needs taken care of then we are definitely in contention for the superbowl. Now we have a little more room to wiggle with the draft picks. I hope we can get that WR Jordy Nelson from KSU in the 3rd or 4th. he is a major playmaker and can get yards after the catch. Good work Ruskell
