Niners Cut D-Jack

Wow, this is something to wake up to. After acquiring Bryant Johnson yesterday, the 49ers have given Darrell Jackson his release.

To all of you who said Jackson wouldn't be starting, I guess you were right and I was wrong.

First, the Niners are back to having an unproven guy and someone who was born before the pope, Johnson and Bruce respectively.

As for Seahawk interest, I really can't imagine them having any. What upset the Seahawks still remains, Jackson just isn't the type of hard working, company man that Ruskell demands. He will get a job somewhere, but for now, I think trading him to the Niners for a 4th goes down as a win. How many of you thought so when it happened? END

  1. Unfortnatelty D Jack doesnt work hard, is injured often, and he was a product of Holmgrens system, best of luck to him elsewhere. I may not have liked the deal last year, but looks great now.

  2. I loved D-Jack, and would like to have him back... But you're right, it just aint gonna happen. He doesn't fit the Ruskell mold (which I think is a good mold).

  3. It's like an early St Patrick's Day present! I bet the Bears grab him, they love a) jackasses and b) ball-droppers

  4. When i saw that we were getting rid of D-Jack to San Fran i thought we were going to lose two in a row again to San Fran. Wow! I have more confidence in Ruskell now more than ever!

  5. I gotta admit, I didn't like the move when it originally happened. Now it's like we got a free 4th round pick. I just wish we would've used it on somebody other than Mansfield Wrotto.

Wouldn't it be great if we DID pick him back up for a big discount? Not going to happen, though. Even if the FO wanted him, I highly doubt he would want to come back after everything that happened.

  6. He was fun to watch, but much like watching Bobby Ayala close a game. Cover your eyes and pray. His hands were mostly terrible, but he got numbers because of the situation more than his individual talents.

  7. I don't know why you give back Mansfield Wrotto??

I realize he didn't play, but last year was his 2nd year ever playing o-line. He easily had the highest upside of any player at that position in the draft. He could far out live his draft position once he has experience, and if he doesn't, it was a free pick!

  8. By position, I mean 4th round, not guard

  9. This from profootballweekly.com:

There are rumblings that Seahawks president of football operations/GM Tim Ruskell absolutely loves Orgeon RB Jonathan Stewart — perhaps enough to trade up from the 25th spot in the first round to land him.

    w00t!

  10. Like SA, I thought DJack had outlived his usefulness as a player here. Most do not (seem to) like that school of thought, but getting overly attached to players in decline is a very expensive (and futile) pasttime.

As for Wrotto, take it easy on him, he is a (future) 10 year starter at G, probably RG, give him and Sims a year or 2 and they will be the pro-bowl middle of a very good offensive line.

(Walter/Replacement), Sims, Spencer, Wrotto, Locklear will be the best line in pro football in 2010 (if they are not locked out)

  11. It has been speculated and somewhat hinted to by the organization that Locklear is the eventual replacement for Jones at LT. Also Willis is supposed to have been pushing Locklear pretty hard for the RT position the last few years.

Based on that, I see a future starting line of:

LT:Locklear, RG: Wrotto, C: Spencer, RG: Sims, RT:Willis

The only question is does Sims go back to LG and Wrotto move into RG? I still think that a season or 3 at RG will make Sims a much better lineman. He just needs to get familiar with things. And, he was a RG in college.

  13. This is actually pretty funny.

The media was riping Ruskell for this one. "OMG WHY WOULD YOU TRADE YOUR BEST RECEIVER TO A DIVISION RIVAL!?!?!?!...SEATTLE IS NOT SMART"

Well turns out we got Wrotto or Atkins (however you feel about it) for free. Both players have huge upside and could be starters in 2-3 years.

Thanks San Fran! Call us if you wanna throw away another draft pick.

  14. It seems like many of Ruskell's "questionable" moves have turned out to be very smart. Last I checked, you can add Dyson and Herndon to the list of players released by their teams this offseason.

  15. Jennings > Herndon...well,Pete Hunter > Herndon :P. I hated watching Herndon get burned all the time..

  16. I was never a Ruskell lover (see Urban and Hutchinson situations) but I totally loved trading D-Drop last year and it has worked out great!

I agree with a few of the posters about giving Wrotto a break!

I believe Sims played LG and even some LT in college. I don't recall him being on the right side of the line though.

  17. I don't care, I liked D Jack a lot. If he could have stayed healthy his whole Hawk career his numbers would likely put him in the top 5 of all WR's in the NFL right now.

What if this whole 49er debacle has changed him for the better? What if he wants to come back and make things right with the Hawks? If he is motivated he is exactly what we need for our depleted WR corps. I would love to see him back on a small deal personally.

  18. Wow! Before last year I never would have thought Jackson could fall so far so fast. He had worked through his dropsies, for the most part, and was the most exciting Hawks WR since Largent.

Now he may be on a long walk off a short NFL pier, to mangle a phrase.

I would love to have him back. He and Hass had a connection that went even beyond Hass and Engram. jackson is a west coast offense wr, he wont do well outside this offense.

Besides, he got fat, lazy, and frustrated. The grass really wasnt greener, was it D-jack?

  19. By forcing the Hawks to trade him, and then wearing out his welcome with the Niners, Jackson has lost a HUGE ammount of money. If he'd kept his mouth shut and played opposite Branch, he would have collected all his contract money, and if he'd toed Ruskells line and continued to outplay the hideously overpaid Branch, Ruskell MIGHT have kicked down even more money. Now he's in the srap heap.

  20. Hackett would be smart to see this and realize that Hasselbeck and our WC offense helps recievers get numbers. He will regret it if he signs else where. I think he will sign a one or two year deal in Seattle before the weekend is done
