Looks like this tampering charge wasn't as ridiculous as the 49er brass would of had you believe. According to ESPN Sportscenter, the NFL has found the 49ers guilty of tampering on Bears linebacker Lance Briggs.
The team must forfeit their 5th round draft choice, and swap 3rd rounders with the Bears. That moves them down 5 spots in the third round. Here is the story according to the Chicago Tribune.
But two years ago, it was reported way before Free Agency started that Marquand Manuel would sign with the Packers for x ammount over x years, and on the first day of Free Agency, guess what happened?! Marquand signed for the exact number of dollars and the exact number of years...And the NFL did nothing. "No evidence of tampering"....my lily white ass there wasnt!
ReplyDeleteBecause the NFL will never nail Brett Farve's team, or the CowTUrds, or the Giants...etc etc. The NFL only busted the Pats because they HAD to...
The NFL is run by a greedy bean counter who only cares about money. He has no love of football, or history, and he damn sure isnt interested in the integrity of the game...This douche will only bust second-tier teams, and drag his feet over HGH, Steroids, cheating, you name it...all in the name of the greater good--ie, money money money!
The NFL brass are the most hippocritical bunch of buttwhipes on the planet. Right up there with the stinking MLB.

Slave, that was before spygate and before marvel comics latest hero, "the enforcer", otherwise known as Goodell, recieved his full superpowers.
ReplyDeleteAt face value it looks good because it punishes the 49ers thereby sending a message to future would be tamperers, and doesn't overly reward the bears for being a tattle-tale.

I hate to break it to you, but the Niners usually rank up there with the leagues big name franchises. They were pretty successful for a while there.
ReplyDeleteAlso, this was different than Manuel, this happened during the season.
Third, they took picks away from the Whiners! Celebrate!
I agree, you can't hold Goodell responsible for the past. He has inflicted more punishment than anyone prior.
ReplyDeleteAnd, ahahahahaah, nice work fortywhiners!
The niners are a team that Goodell has washed his hands of. They were winners, back when thier payroll was twice as big as most teams, due to DeBartolo laundering money for his mob pals...Then the NFL made him dump the franchise--"bad press means less money, he's got to go now that the public knows" and the salary cap helped level the playing field...now the 9ers are worse than the Tardinals...the fans are fading away...and so they are a safe patsy for Goodell to whup on so it looks like he's taking charge.
ReplyDeleteWasnt Goodell second in command behind Tagliabue for a million years?! By my calculations, that means he was intimately involved in the decisions not to slap the hands of teams that tamper...Trust me, he was there, he was part of the decision-making, and he is guilty.
ReplyDeleteCan't resist commenting on the "Leatherheads" ad on your site. First time I saw it, I thought you were spoofing us - very clever. Next time their heads are popping up like Shaggy Manes. Oh my god, this is serious. I hope these "stars" are getting serious money for their efforts because they look ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteLeather Heads - - - I could think of a more descriptive name.
Slave has a point about special treatment. Is that the reason why all the problem children (including pacman) are heading to Dallas?
ReplyDeleteWith JJ's power, that may be the only place in the nfl where those individuals will be cut some slack when (not if) they screw up again.

"Going forward, we will take the necessary steps to ensure we are in compliance with the NFL's interpretation."
ReplyDeleteThis is the second time in as many team punishments the teams have referred to the NFL's ruling as interpretative.
I really don't like these cases being considered a disagreement over rule interpretation as "OK" or "Not wrong". The league should also discipline for these claims. They are either guilty or not, they should not be given an oppertunity to to disagree with the ruling. This is either a rule break, which is cheating, or it isn't.
If the rules are realy that open to intrepretation, then the league has bigger issues than the 49ers and Pats. Their core foundation, their rule book, is flawed. Which would demonstrate they have been operating under pretenses of rules that have not existed for decades. Which would also inidicate this is a polotical affair more so than a sport with solid rules and honorable intention.
