I have kind of increased the number of players included by a few because the shear number of players available to be picked in this spot is daunting. Also, according to Ruskell it is possible we will get a compensation pick, if so it will probably be a 7th, so maybe we will have two. That should be announced early next week. Who knows, maybe the Hawks will get to choose Mr. Irrelevant!
Speaking of irrelevant, lets hope my projections don't turn out to be so. To see the seventh round....
First...Here are the links to the previous projections...
1st...2nd...3rd....4th...6th.
As Always, these are just my opinions, but I am basing them off of things I have learned about the Hawks Draft Master, Tim Ruskell. Things like, he doesn't take players from small schools, and he thinks character is pretty important, etc.
Here are the projections....
SEAHAWK ADDICTS 7TH ROUND PROJECTIONS

Chancy Washington-RB-USC-- Washington is the classic running back who could be a better pro than college player. He just never got the touches necessary for him to be great at USC. He is a physical runner with a good build and runs between the tackles well. He would probably need a year on the practice squad to work on blocking/receiving and understanding the system.
Brandon Coutu-K-Georgia- Coutu has a big leg. He hits kicks from 50+ with no problems. He also has a good leg for kickoffs. He was a little inconsistent at times, but that is why you have a veteran to compete with him. Is this the kicker the Hawks like? Who knows, but he seems to fit the profile of the one who left.
Eric Foster-DE-Rutgers- I didn't know much about this guy until it was announced that the Hawks are brining him in for visit. However the video that reader Erik found says a lot. He just looks like a Ruskell guy. He is smaller, but a fighter. He looks like the quick penetrating tackle the Hawks like to use in their rotation. HERE IS THE VIDEO.
Tim Bugg-LS-Indiana- Not too much I can say except he is the best long snapper around. He was at the combine and supposedly impressed. Most think that he won't be drafted, but if the Hawks want to make sure he has to come to Seattle, they could throw a 7th at him. Wouldn't be the worst idea I have ever heard.
Matt Spanos-C-USC- Big, big, center. 6'5" 300lbs. He is known to play with a nasty streak. He doesn't have a lot of experience at center, but could also play guard. he would be put in a similar position as Steve Vallos. Spend a year on the practice squad, see if there is some promise, and then possibly slide into Chris Gray's role of backup guard/center. He has played against top players during his career, including Sed. Ellis everyday in practice.
Tyler Polumbus-T-Colorado-- This kid could be just they type of tackle prospect the team should be looking at. He has prototypical size at 6'7" and he is atheletic enough to play LT. However he needs some time to grow into the role. Perfect, the Hawks have two tackles. He could be the 4th tackle this year, be the backup next year if Willis departs, and maybe eventually he becomes a very good player in the league. His size and athleticism give him a lot of upside.
Jonathan Zenon-CB-LSU- Typical story of a guy who was a heck of a competitor against very good competition who is a late round pick because of his 40 time. The Seahawks corners don't usually run deep with WR's so much anyway, the safeties do. He is 5'11" 190lbs and a very good athlete. Despite his size he is known to be a physical corner.
Jehuu Caulcrick-FB-Michigan State- Caulcrick is one of the few throwback fullbacks in this draft. He is also the only one likely to be available late in the draft. While FB is not a huge need for the Hawks, it would be nice to have some insurance. Weaver will be a UFA next year, and really I am not sure what to expect from Kirtman. This guy is a bruiser and a good short yardage guy. Not the greatest hands, but a capable lead blocker. If the teams wants to add a more traditional fullback, this could be the guy.
There it is. A reader suggested that we keep score how good the projections are. I want to assure I will be, but I would feel lucky to just have one or two guys the Hawks draft on my lists. Ruskell keeps things close to the vest and very few can predict with any accuracy what he will do. But for now, the projections are done. I think this will free me up to start a series of SA Mock Drafts, starting next week. There is less than a month until the big day....personally, I can't wait.
THANKS AGAIN!!!! KEEP SUPPORTING THE SITE!!!!!!
I would put LS's Tim Bugg or Tyler Schmitt right up there as a vital
ReplyDelete7th. Here you are drafting a long snapper, not a specific player.
But RB Donny Woodhead is the most fascinating. Career yards rushing 7,962 and lead Div II past two years ... and he bench pressed 20 times and ran a 4.33 with a 38" vertical) even though he is very small (5'7 1/2, 197 pounds.
Could be the Darrell Sproles of this draft.
OG Drew Radovich, and OT Tony Hills would be right behind these.
WR Mark Bradford of Stanford is a super sleeper.
So that's another five choices.
I think Radovich will be gone long before the 7th. 4th or 5th maybe

ReplyDeleteHey Michael, hopefully you will read this.
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned working on some Mock Drafts. That's great. A few notes from me tho:
There are obviously thousands and thousands of M.D.'s out there, but 99 percent of them are mostly wrong. Maybe it would help make the base of your Mock Draft stronger is you listed the top 32, maybe top 60 players available in the draft--based solely off of talent and NFL readiness (in your opinion).
Then you could break down any trends that GM's have on draft day, like Detroit liking WR's and the Raiders always looking for flash before character. Things like that.
Another aspect is based off of need, which GM is drafting for need in the 1rst? I would say the Patriots (CB) and the Falcons (RB) are the obvious ones. Any more?
SO this is my point. M.D.'s regularly leave one of these out, but if all are considered separately, one could have an idea of who will be left when the Hawks pick, since we have no clue who they will actually take. Most teams draft on a combination of these things, and every team probably can be narrowed down to want to take one of 2 to 3 players in the 1rst. I think laying some ground-work first would greatly add to the validity of your Mock Draft.
Those are my thoughts.

ReplyDeleteCould be the Darrell Sproles of this draft<.
or another Ahmad Bradshaw, the Darrell Sproles of last year's draft. I love watching those guys run.
I can't seem to find where you said you were working on a Mock Draft, but I know you said it somewhere...hmm.
ReplyDeleteWell, if you aren't working on one, you should be sometime, it makes for great conversation!
Christopher...thanks for the tips. I do plan on considering those types of things. However, I am not going to make it more than it is. Mock drafts are simply projections. Things change every day. I don't have access to the war rooms so... I really can only do my best with what I know.
ReplyDeleteGlad I could be of some use.
ReplyDeleteI do understand you have limited access to insider information, but you usually are a pretty clear thinker, so I believe you can put out an accurate display. But don't kill yourself over it.
Question--Probably one of the lamest ever: On Seahawks.com they say they are installing new grass. Will it make any difference, or is it just a slight upgrade? Not a big deal, just wondering (it usually takes a lot for something to show up on Seahawks.com!). That would be a great job to have, and it could be made great in a hurry because whoever is doing it is very slow. He probably has to get everything approved 100 times too.
I think they are just replacing the old turf with new turf. Also, they are going to have the soccer team playing on it too, so it was about time. I don't think it is any big deal, at least not at this time of year. There is so much other stuff going on!
ReplyDeleteHey, is there a website for the new MLS team? Is Mr. Allen backing this as he is the 'Hawks?
ReplyDeleteHe should, it makes for great money if smart inverstment is made. Just look at what David Beckham has done going to the Galaxy. Bringing in big names and big clubs to play (like Chelsea and Barcelona 2 years ago) would be HUGE for the Seattle to be put on the map world-wide.
Sorry, I really don't mean to turn this into a soccer blog, not at all, but maybe you have a site or some info for me.
Christopher,
ReplyDeleteAbout the turf. I read that the replacing of the turf is just prevenative maintenance. Some of the different stadiums around the league last year had pretty bad turf and when the turf is bad it increases the chance that the players on the field will get hurt. The turf at the seahawks stadium wasn't bad, but was beyond its prime so Paul Allen replaced it. Most owners would have waited longer, but Allen's got the deepest pockets, by about 13 billion, of any of the other football owners; so he decided to fix it before it became bad.

tx. Griffin. Glad we have Mr. Allen in charge of our organization. I won't say anything about the Oklahoma City Sinners of Mr. Bennett.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the draft analysis for each round. You've done your homework on these guys, each one fits the system and they all look like the kid of guys that Ruskell would draft. One question though - no QBs? The Hawks have brought a couple guys in for a visits so they must be thinking about it. I was expecting at least a Booty or a Brennan to get in there somewhere. What are your thoughts about who might fit?
ReplyDeleteErik,
ReplyDeleteI don't expect the Hawks to draft a QB. Hass, Seneca, and Frye are all under contract next year. Unless a great quarterback fell to one of our picks and was a really great value, I don't see it happening. They would have to cut Frye, and he's cheap, experienced, and good insurance for Hass and Sen. Maybe next year if they don't resign Frye they'll draft a QB.
Oh, and I think Michael mentioned on an earlier post that the Hawks might be trying to keep other GMs guessing by looking at QBs. Maybe we can get a few teams nervous that we might take a QB at # 25 so they end up reaching for a QB instead of picking a better value. Then maybe more players of value fall to us, who knows?

Damn!! I Love my readers!! You are on the ball, Tom! You guys all help each other out, it is a beautiful thing.
ReplyDeleteAnd I concur on all of your points, it is almost exactly what I would have said. I would add that if people think we are going to take a QB, a team who needs a QB and has multiple 2nds, like Miami or Atlanta, may be willing to swap with us.
They may not take a QB but I'm not convinced they're not thinking seriously about it. If I only look at three facts: Ruskell is almost fanatical about planning for the future, A good QB is almost a requirement to contend in the post-season, and the starting QB will be 33 years old this season, I have to think that it's getting more consideration in Kirkland than it is here.
ReplyDeleteErik, I think they will take a QB, and probably first day next year. Hopefully with the 32 pick! Also, that way it can be Mora's QB and they build that relationship from day one. Also, Frye will be a free agent. It makes way too much sense not to just take one next year. And it is not like he would play this year, even if Matt got hurt...Seneca would.
ReplyDeleteWhile we're on the QB subject,
ReplyDeleteFrye seems to be under everyone's radar right now, as far as prospects for the future go. The guy had a tough time in Cleveland, and may not pan out. But he's got quite a bit of game experience for his age, and with Hasselbeck as a mentor and Holmgren as a coach for another year, I think he has some potential. However, Zorn leaving doesn't help, and I'm sure Coach doesn't get a ton of time with the QBs considering all his other responsibilities.
I'm just saying, Frye looked good at times with the Browns. Maybe he could surprise us.
-Tom
Michael
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could start a post that contrasts drafting a bigger DT (like Balmer or Okam) as upposed to a smaller all around tackle w smaller stature (laws or moore). I have my opinion that hinges on whether or not Rocky Bernard will still be here after this season but it would be interesting to get some other opinions.

And I agree on not drafting a QB til next years draft. If we are not happy w/ Frye's progress I could see someone like Colt McCoy(Tex), Matthew Stafford(Georgia), Hunter Cantwell(Loui) or everyone can dream of Tim Tebow(Flor). I personally love Stafford and could see him falling to the late first round.
