Just in case you were dying for some more special teams news, I found you this interview with Tim Lindsey. He was with Atlanta as a rookie after going to school at WVU. The Seahawks signed him to a reserve/futures contact after the year to come in and compete. He is heading to Seattle this week for the beginning of the offseason workout program.
And before you get yourselves all worked up, he was in Atlanta long after Tim Ruskell was gone. Anyway, here is the link to the interview. Hope you enjoy! END.
Nice find Mikee! This is a positive news. Let's hope he can solidify the position!
ReplyDeleteYung Hawk
Very good find Michael! I wonder if Brown never liked the guy because according to him Seattle never addressed his long snapper needs. LOL
ReplyDeleteThey should have asked him how much he hates the Stealers? Then I would really be pulling for him!
ReplyDeleteMike, I have been seeing on a lot of mock drafts Jake Long sliding down to the 7th or 8th pick, I don't know if that will really happen or not, but if he did could you see the Hawks trading this years 1st and 3rd along with next years 1st to move up and get him? In my mind guys like this don't come a long too often and I think he would give us one of the most dominant lines in the NFL again. What do you think, I know it sounds a little crazy but you already know I am a crazy guy.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that would be enough to get him, and he won't go past 5 to KC, IMO. Next years pick would be treated like a high 2nd because future year picks lose value. It would be nearly impossible for the Hawks to get into the top 10 and not cripple the team for future years.
ReplyDeleteThats what I thought but I have seen some mocks where he slips as low as 8 or 9 I think, and NE is at 7 and they like to trade and get more picks. I looked at the value chart and our 3 picks add up to about 1600 pts and the #7 pick is worth about 1500 pts. In all reality we would be giving up 2 picks for him, if he didn't fall I wouldn't even think of it but if he does I think it would totally be worth it, this guy could put us over the top. And that would allow us to go TE in this years 2nd round, we have most of our needs filled with our offseason moves we have made.
ReplyDeleteNice detecting, MS. How is it the beat writers don't get this stuff?
ReplyDeleteMaybe because the team is usually not in a hurry to make announcements (except for Lofa contract info).
So for the 6th round I pick Melhaff as a kicker and Mare signs the same day.
Today I write down Bugg or Schmitt, both long snappers, as seventh round choices and you come up with this guy.
What next? ESPN gonna move you to Bristol?
His page in Wikipedia says he signed with the Hawks 1/15/08.
ReplyDeleteBut is not on their official roster as of this week at Seahawks.com ... but NFL.com says he is a Seahawk and will wear #0.
6'4" 270 lbs.
He was an All Big East Academic accredited accolated athlete.
He was a walk on at WV and played some tight end.
Evan,
ReplyDeleteLong is going to be a great Tackle in the NFL, but I don't think the Hawks should even consider going after him, no matter how far he falls. We'd have to give up a lot to get him, and we already have two starting Tackles. Long will be hard-pressed to replace Jones or Locklear anytime soon, especially considering Lock just resigned to a multi-year contract. Long would end up on the bench for about two years and would miss out on a lot of game experiense.
We'd have to pay him a lot, too, if we were to move up and grab him in the top ten...we'd have to give him a lot more money than we should to a backup rookie tackle. He's the kind of guy that can contribute right away, and we don't need that kind of guy next year, and we don't even need that kind of guy in '09, either. What we need, either this year or next, is cheap project rookie at the position who can learn under Jones for a year or two, then come in and make a difference when Jones retires. It would be a very poor investment to bring in a high priced rookie to ride the pine for two years, especially considering how many picks we'd have to give up to get him...each of those picks is a potential contributor. Good teams build through the draft, and you can't do that by trading picks away. Just my opinion, anyway.

nice find for sure. I think this guy could be a nice addition. Sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders.
ReplyDeleteNice going, MS.
ReplyDeleteYou scooped profootballtalk, certainly all our local media, and the station you referenced to just got around to claiming it as an exclusive.
