McShay's Most Recent Mock

by: Michael Steffes

ESPN Personality Tood McShay has released his newest mock draft. It is free right now on ESPN Insider, so I though I would post it.

I must say, I like it. It is getting closer, although I think he has the wrong TE coming off the board, and I hope tomorrows pro day helps to prove that. He does admit they are neck and neck though, and that Mr. Davis is a more complete prospect.

Anyway, I figured this was a sign, I was having strange dreams last night involving Todd McShay buying out Mel Kiper and taking over the world. Bizzare, I know!!! But this is where it led me, so I posted the mock! Either that, or I have spent waaaaaaaaaay too much time thinking about the draft. Is it here yet?

Kiper also released his newest Mock, he and McShay concur for the Hawks pick. Maybe it is because TM has taken over the world? Huh? My brain is a scary place sometime. END

  1. If Stewart falls, the Hawks would be utter morons to pick a TE--let alone one who is too slow to play WR and too small to block--over him. It wont happen. If Stewart or Mendenhall are there, Ruskell will nab them.

  2. Wow, Stewart that low? I know I was saying he might go in the second, but I have changed my mind--how will he go that low? Why are OT's the big thing? I can't see Williams, Otah and Albert going in the top 20. Incredible.
And how does T. Laws make it down to us that low? I am not complaining, but is this draft based on reality? And Keller, I think some team could jump on him in the 1rst, but he is worth a mid-round second pick, same with Davis and Carlson.
That trade with Atlanta is looking beautiful. Draft Laws and Keller (or Davis) in the second. That would be good use of Draft Picks, especially considering we would get other players as well.
    It's looking good.

  3. I really don't like that mock - it's just the same kind of lazy research you get from the numerous fan sites out there.

YES - the hawks need a tight end.

NO - they won't just reach to get one in the 1st.

I mean come on - they have Jo Stewart falling to the Jets in round two. Even if we don't take him, that isn't going to happen. And the Bears will be all over Mendenhall.

Most of these mocks are so impulse. Player gets injured = drop out of first.

Player actually ok, propel them forward 20 picks.

    and repeat.

  4. Here is the thing... Everybody has a mock draft. They could be right, you could be right. Right now, nobody knows!!!! But either way, they start conversation, and right now, that is a good thing, because it is all there is until Roger Goodell steps up to the podium in a couple of weeks.

  5. Anybody else notice that Kiper moved Brandon Albert up to #5!!!!!!! Wow I heard his stock was rising, but that is a huge jump. At one point they said there wasn't a 1st round guard, now there is a top 5 guard.

  6. No wonder I didn't find it. I was looking around in the bottom 20 and there was no Albert. It didn't make any sense. But #5 doesn't make any sense either!!

  7. I'm not sure that Keller would be a good fit for our offense. He played mostly in the H-Back position in college and has yet to prove that he can be an effective edge blocker on the line. And breaking through the LBs into a receiving route from the line is another story as well. I just don't know if I have confidence that he is the type of player that would flourish in our offense. A guy like Davis, or even Carlson, could potentially fit our system better. Does anyone else agree, or am I missing something?

  8. I am totally in agreement Tom, that is why I say I think they have the wrong TE. Plus, Fred Davis has his pro day tomorrow. My bet is he improves on his poor combine and then all of a sudden he will be back in front of Keller.

Keller is like the flavor of the month, nobody even cared about him until his combine numbers. GM's don't weigh those numbers as heavily as Mock Draft Guru's.

  9. I think Fred Davis would be a cracking pick in the 2nd round. I think the only thing that stops it possibly happening is Buffalo in the early 2nd, but they might well take Keller.

But in the first I'd just love us to go out and get the BPA. If Jo Stewart is there, he's your guy. So many of these mocks only have us passing on him because of the J Jones deal.

  10. I don't typically bash on people, but Kiper seems like an idiot. He makes some of the most idiotic predictions, and when you watch him on TV, he just acts like one of those guys who doesn't know what he's talking about, but tries real hard to make you think he does. Some of the crap that spews from his mouth makes him sound incredibly ignorant, like he just makes things up based on very minimal research.

Albert moving up to #5 is a great example. I just can't wait until he gives us a poor draft grade, and two years from now we have 3 or 4 starters from the group.

  11. This is McShay's mock, not Kiper's.

  12. Hey Mike, keep Kiper in mind for Assclown of the week the week after the draft, when teams dont do what he thinks they should and he gives Ruskell a lousy draft grade again...

  13. Yea i saw Albert there in Kiper's draft and was shocked. Doesn't seem possible.

Anyway, I don't like the draft. Clearly we'd be reaching with Keller, and Stewart is a much more highly rated talent and we should take the local kid!

  14. I agree, Davis will probably have a good pro day and things will even out a bit. Everyone's favorite flavor will suddenly taste a little sour.

  15. Passing on Jonathan Stewart, I am not sure about that...

  16. I just don't see us picking up a TE for the first round. I really believe that if Stewart is there we will take him. If he is not then we will focus on our Offensive line. We really need to start grooming someone to take over Jones' spot and the other side as well.

  17. Plus, it looks like our defense is set for a few years. I think we can draft a DE later in the draft.

  18. I think there are a lot of other directions we can go with this pick because I don't think Carlson in the 2nd is a significant downgrade from either Davis or Keller and he sounds more like a Ruskell pick in my opinion. If one of the OTs makes it to 25 I'd be ecstatic and a move down would not be a bad play either. Too many options to reach here.

  19. PS-- forgot my potential TR surprise pick: Phillips S the U

  20. Kiper makes a living selling absolutly nothing - cotton candy, hype. Not everyone can do that as successfully as he can. Give him some credit.

  21. I think davis will do well at the Pro day tomorrow and we end up with Davis in our camp. Keller is good but I don't think he fits. Watch and learn Mel Kiper.

  22. I think Tim Ruskell has done a good job picking players based on how they actually PLAY FOOTBALL, apposed to all the workout hype. Personally, I think teams who fall in love with a guy because he works out well, are the teams who suck at evaluation.....I like FOOTBALL PLAYERS!!
How can a guy that was basically un-noticed for his play on the field, get into a high first round because he can run a short shuttle, or jump 10 feet high?
I trust Tim and the evaluation he uses.......based on FOOTBALL TALENT and IQ!!!!

  23. All I Kno is that if J-Stew is there at #25 we need to snag em...if we can move up a few spots"Great take em" if not i say we trade down to early 2nd and pick up Davis...I like em better that Keller just for the simple fact hes been playing in a pro-style system for the past years. But the ideal draft would be this one posted by a writer for "Fannation".com Hey Micheal Steffes have check this one out yet?????

  24. McShay had us taking Keller (with the same synopsis and everything) in his last mock draft, which was like March 7th or something..

Nothing new here, and typical, he put no effort into analyzing the Seahawks pick, even as some of the other picks changed around us..

    ReplyDelete
  25. Agree. I just don't see TE as a first-round pick, almost ever but especially this year, unless you are getting THE #1 elite TE of a class and there happens to be a game-changing one. TE is the one of the cheapest positions in the league. Franchise TEs get paid in the 4-5M range, right? (Is it even that high?) Why set yourself up to pay first round money to a small TE that might not even be an every down, every formation player? Don't see it.

If you're looking for a large playmaker that would be good in the red zone and more worthy of the pick and the money, why not grab one of the premier receivers, an athletic, high-character big playmeaker like Limas Sweed whose stock is only down because of injury?

Or, at least get a tackle. Any other year and Sam Baker would be WAY further up this list. It's just this year. He may not be the flashiest player, but he's proven himself for 4 years for a very, very good team playing LT in a pro-style offense in a tough conference. His stock is down because he doesn't have as much "upside," he's not as big, he played banged-up this year and this is just a banner year for tackles which is moving him down the list.

    And, Jonathan Stewart, obviously?
