If anybody is looking for something interesting to watch today, two Seahawk games are on NFLN today.
First is the debacle in the snow. It will be on as part of the Replay series. It will be shown at 11:30 am PST.
Second is the Tony Romo fumbled snap wild card game of 06. It will be on NFLN at 8:30pm PST. It is the "Game of the Week", half hour version.
I think I will be watching the second. I am not sure if I am ready to watch the Green Bay game again yet. If you are, more power to you. Now you know it is on. ~END~

Good Use for a Terrible Towel... If there are any
by: Michael Steffes
I just played around of golf and I got stuck playing with a Stealer fan. How did I know? The towel hanging from his bag was a terrible towel.
He says Rothlisberger got in, D Jack pushed off, and Randle El's pass to Hines Ward was a thing of beauty. I asked if he knew that Jerome Bettis was originally from Detroit? He admitted that that story got old even for Stealer fans. The other thing we agreed on.... that Jerramy Stevens is a complete douche.
Don't worry Seahawk Addicts.... I smoked him on the course. It was soooo pretty. And Bill Leavy couldn't do anything about it. Just thought I would share since there was nothing else worth posting. ~END~

Signing Draft Choices
by: Michael Steffes
There has been some concern expressed in the comments section about why the Seahawks top draft choices haven't signed. I thought I would pass this along.
John Clayton has unearthed part of the problem. The NFLPA is holding up the process. They are seeking a decision by a special master about how guaranteed money can be paid out to first and second round choices. Follow the link, John Clayton explains it better than I ever could.
Either way, what will probably happen is that once a few mid first rounders sign, it will set the slotting. Then you will see a rash of players signed in the days leading up to their respective camps. In the past the Hawks have often signed their top picks a day or two before camp starts. They will probably strike a deal with Red Bryant and Owen Schmitt a bit before that. I don't personally expect any holdouts, but you never know. Negotiations are tricky because of the owners choice to opt out of the CBA, leaving financial uncertainty on the horizon. ~END~

This Just In...
by: Michael Steffes
Brett Favre is really, really annoying. Seriously, this whole story is stale like a two year old loaf of Wonderbread. Read this Jay Glazer report. I think I will actually root for the Packers if they go into the season with Rodgers as their starting quarterback ~END~

Bill Leavy Not the Worst?
by: Michael Steffes
Mike Sando continues is coverage of the ESPN coaches poll. He has written an article on how the coaches rated the officials.
Essentially, it shows that Mike Carey is one of the coaches favorites. He is mine also. I think Carey does a very good job running a game. I feel like when I am watching a good game he is often the guy in stripes. Also, when Sando use to blog at the TNT, he did a good job tracking the officials. At one point the Hawks had a great record when Carey was officiating. I haven't been keeping up, but I noted that he was the ref in Green Bay last January, cause I thought for sure we would be playing another week.
On the other side, Bill Leavy only got one vote as the worst official. I am going to go out on a limb and say Big Mike placed that vote. Or maybe not, considering the NFL hasn't dared put Levy near a Seahawks game since Superbowl XL, Coach may have forgotten he was even alive. Most of us wish he wasn't. ~END~

Running Game Projections
by: Michael Steffes
Part of the Pro Football Prospectus is also individual projections. It seems that there has been some debate lately about how the running backs are being projected. Because of this, I thought I would post the PFP projections for the Seattle running game, along with some 07 totals.
As you can see, PFP projects a slight improvement in average and yards. They did not provide projections from Leonard Weaver which slightly skews things. As they have it without Weaver though, the team is still averaging more than 100 yards per game. They don't show much improvement in the pass catching stats of the backs; however in their writing they praise Julius Jones' ability on screen passes.
The biggest improvement is in the touchdowns. This seems to project the Hawks being able to pound the ball on short yardage. To me this is the most important improvement that needs to take place. Even if the team doesn't run substantially better as a whole, converting the short yardage will dramatically improve the teams consistency and number of wins. Last year they let a few slip away because they simply could not get a yard, when most needed, in the fourth quarters of games. ~END~

Comprehensive Season Preview
by: Michael Steffes
I will be away from the computer for the next several hours. I am still in training to win next years Seahawks charity golf tournament... if they have such a thing? :-) The handicap must come down, but before it does... a post must go up.
Here is what you get to keep you amused and the discussion rolling. Yet another in the long line of season preview articles. This one is a bit deeper than usual, and is written by someone who either isn't blind, or has a bit of 12th man in him.
Here is the article from Touchdown.com.
There are a few things that can be debated from this article, so I am interested to hear what you all think. The writer is obviously not a Sean Locklear fan which is surprising. I think he is our most consistent linemen; Walt has been prone to a bad game here in there the last two years. He balances this by claiming Leonard Weaver is a pro bowler in waiting. Interesting.
Hope you enjoy.... ~END~

Lo Jack a Bust?
by: Michael Steffes
I found an interesting blog post that may stir some discussion. Eric Edholm of Profootballweekly.com has written an article he calls 50-50. The premise is that half of the first round picks work out and the other half are busts. He is attempting to predict which way the picks will go. He doesn't think to highly of Mr. Tim Ruskell's choice this year...
28. DE Lawrence Jackson — Seahawks
Prediction: Bust
I thought Jackson was a nice college player, but I have heard two scouts say he’s not special in any way and that a lot of his production in college came from the fact that he was surrounded by elite talent at USC. You didn’t often see him double-teamed, which is a good indication he didn’t warrant such treatment. In Seattle’s system, Jackson will rotate a lot. I suspect he’ll never be great, though he could be serviceable.
There could be a few things working here. I don't know Edholm or his work very well, but if we just look at this article, it is possible he has an anti USC bias. He thinks that three of the four Trojans chosen this year, Keith Rivers, Sam Baker, and Lawrence Jackson, in the first round are going to be busts. Sed Ellis is the only one he sees succeeding.
This lead me to research the history of his picks a bit. He did this last year as well. Here is last years article. Because the Hawks didn't have a first, we can't determine if he has anything against the Hawks picks, but it is clear that his selections are just as much of a crap shoot as the actual draft. Notable bust picks from last year include: Joe Thomas, who some have said is already a top 3 tackle in the league; Marshaun Lynch, who while a turd is also a pretty effective runner; and KC's Dewayne Bowe, who came within 5 yards of being the third rookie wideout in 10 years to amass 1000 yards in his rookie season.
In other words, make of this what you will, but it is an interesting read either way. ~END~

More Props for Big Walt
by: Michael Steffes
It must be nice to be at the absoulte top of your proffesion and be as universally loved as Walter Jones. I mean when do you ever here a cross word about this guy? He is the perfect fit for Seattle. He is a quiet, unassuming first ballot hall of famer who practically goes unnoticed until an east coast team plays Seattle.
Anyway, onward with the post. TSN has released a new set of rankings, this time choosing to focus on the offensive lines. Guess who is first? No, not the Hawks, the same team they have ranked first in virtually every single list; the Boys. But who cares, that can be expected by now. The Hawks rank 9th, which is maybe a touch low of where I would put them, but they beat out the rest of the division so that is good news.
What I will choose to focus on this time around is that they still list Walter Jones as the best tackle in the NFC. He is. They got this right. Walt has had a rough couple years. He hasn't really had a unit he could rely on enough so that he could just do his job. Hopefully with Wahle here, he can go back to being quiet, unassuming and utterly dominate. Having his shoulders healthy would help too. I feel a revival comin' to town! ~END~

Danny O'Neil: OMG, Favre Returning IRL? LOL
by: Mike Parker
Since things are slow lately, I figured you all would get a kick out of this.
Danny O'Neil with the Seattle Times has, in my humble opinion, created the most utterly hilarious (non?)fictional text-message conversation between Brett Favre and Ted Thompson in the Seahawks Blog.
OH HAI FAVRE! COME BACK 2 GREEN BAY, WE LUV U! LOLOMG!
This furthers my belief that in another two years, NOBODY will actually talk on the phone anymore. --END--
