If you have hung around this site long enough, you have heard me mention the website Football Outsiders. You may have even checked it out through the links on the right. If you understand what DVOA is, then you are a step ahead. Anyway, you will hear me talk about FO's and DVOA a lot during the season. These are hard core stats guys of professional football (also some of them are Hawk fans). Any way, here is a link to their segment FOUR DOWNS: NFC WEST.
This includes such brilliant analysis as:....
it is one thing for your skills to decline with age (understandable and inevitable) and quite another to become the laughingstock of the NFL because of your all-too-apparent fear of taking a hit (unacceptable and embarrassing).
and....
The Seahawks are definitely interested in Alge Crumpler, who would give Holmgren something that he’s always wanted: a big tight end with good hands who isn’t an alleged rapist
and....
Football Outsiders have been vocal supporters of Hackett throughout his career, but it’s hard to stay too excited about a receiver made out of balsa wood. Hackett’s agent stated earlier this week that he intends to “test the market,” so don’t expect him back in blue and teal.
Anyway, check out the article. It also talks about Josh Brown, Mike Wahle, and Marcus Trufant. If you like what I have to say, this site is in my opinion, one of the best!
This was a very good source of news. I am impressed they were so in-depth on the Hawks. Most national publications that are supposedly smart on all teams are unbelievably stupid when it comes to basic stuff.
ReplyDeleteKind of like announcers who do the games and yet don't know basic facts that die-hard fans do.
ReplyDeleteGranted, we have no life but if their job is knowing football and all the teams they broadcast then they should know. I am required to know basic stuff at my job and all of you reading probably need to know things for your job too.
"In any event, Alexander claims that he won’t restructure his contract, which if true all but guarantees that he won’t play for the Seahawks this year (although he’ll still count for $2.3 million against this year’s cap and $4.6 million in 2009.)"
ReplyDeleteIs it that cut and dry? He MUST do one or the other? If so, how likely is he to restructure? Or to get cut?
It's TV. Football is a product used to sell commercials in order to make money. TV guys hype the stars to help brand their commercial products and thereby increase sales. Television isn't interested so much in an announcer that is technically accurate but rather an announcer that can create excitement and hype in order to hold the viewers attention until the next commerncial.
ReplyDeleteThen how in the hell do some uninspiring boring clowns have jobs?
ReplyDeleteHey Michael-
ReplyDeleteThis is Ben Riley, Football Outsider and Seahawks fanatic (and author of the NFC West: Four Downs piece). Thanks for linking to our article on your site -- I'll try to return the favor in the weeks ahead. I just discovered "Seahawk Addict" a few days ago, and it's already become a daily "must click" for me. Really, really good work being done here -- keep it up!
Thanks Ben, I am a big fan of yours. Welcome on board. If there is anything we can ever collaborate on, shoot me an email, its in my profile.
ReplyDeleteBen, do you know all of football as well as you know the Seahawks?
ReplyDeleteIf so, I'd say you sure as hell are a credible source.
This is a great source of seahawks information. Keep up the great work.
