Hackett Talk Should Start Heating Up

Adam Schefter is reporting that Jerry Porter has agreed to terms in Jacksonville. It is believed to be 6yrs 30 million w/ 10 guaranteed. That is almost an exact duplicated of Antwan Randle El's contract, as a reader suggested Hackett's would be. The Jags may have an explosive offense next year. Of course, defenses won't even cover Troy Williamson because he catches worse than the guy from Necessary Roughness (crappy childhood movie reference).

  1. Michael...I don't understand the cap too well, so maybe you can answer this...

With Brown 100% gone (as Softy said Josh Brown text messaged him 30 minutes ago) does that make room for the Hawks to sign Hack? If it does make room, do you see the Hawks using that cash for Hackett?

    Thanks

  2. At most Josh Brown was going to count 2 million against this years cap. Clearly it was a "philosophical difference", much like Trufant. It was a matter of not overpaying a player because he has been here. It is a very economical and fiscal approach. Josh Brown wanted more than his value, as perceived by Ruskell was. Hackett, either way, is going to take up more cap space. Plus, the Hawks have many replacements lined up for Hack, which is why the were more focused on negotiating with Brown. The Hawks feel they have adequate replacements at a fraction of the cost, this makes Hackett more valuable to other teams than he is to the Hawks.
