I have read Frank's latest musings out of the mouth of Tim Ruskell. I don't particullary put too much stock in it. Well except the they will look for veteran long snapper. They are just waiting for the Falcons and Bucs next round of cuts.
I could be in denial about Shaun Alexander, but I believe they are just keeping their options open in case they can't snag a back they like. Wouldn't do much good it he was pouting all year. I have a hard time believing that they are the only ones in the entire NFL community who thinks Shaun can return to his previous greatness.
Here is what i do think is important. He says the Hawks are only missing their 5th rounder this year from the trade for Alvin Pearman. I am assuming they have Tennessees (for Fisher) in place of their own (Frye). But since the two teams are picking back to back it doesn't really matter. Obviously the Josh Parry pick never vested, thank god!
Ruskell also thinks we are getting a compensation pick. I will believe it when I see it. I can't remember who we lost other than Hamlin, but I would think signing Kerney, Grant, and Russell negate it. Well See.
In the meantime, no cuts have been announced. It really isn't that big a deal because the Hawks can spend their 12 million now, then restructure and cut people before they have to sign rookies. That way they can avoid going over the cap. Just more proof that this organization strays from the pack in the way they approach things, but no complaints from me as long as we keep winning. END OF POST
it's KERNEY not KEARNY
ReplyDeletedon't mean to picky, but i can't stand when people spell our own player's names wrong
Sorry, I was writing quickly while talking on the phone. Usually I hold myself to a higher standard
ReplyDeleteAnd on a depressing here is espn's article about best free agent pickups and looky looky.
ReplyDeletehttp://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3269224
OH WHY MUST YOU HAUNT MY DREAMS!
I think this is going ot be a rough and frustrating FA period for Hawk fans. No money to spend as the window close even further
ReplyDeleteTypical ESPN. If it were me... I would wait until Hutch helped them get to the playoffs at least once before proclaiming him one of the greatest signings ever
ReplyDeleteSorry Folks... That post was sloppy. There were like 10 typos in it. Anybody want work as an editor?? I think I have been working the Web way to long today. 12 hours to go today and then all weekend long! Bring it on!
ReplyDeleteIs it me or is the blog slow to scroll down now that we have Google ads.
ReplyDeleteKevin
With the addition of Wahle and Crumpler how much more do you want in the way of F/A's?
ReplyDeleteYou think we have the money to add 18 more players?
Long snapper is a consideration but we could use our 7th for Bugg.
The only weirdness here could be over Pearman, who we obtained for an conditional undisclosed choice, and got an undisclosed choice back in that deal.
Otherwise, this is the first I can find of no fifth rounder.
Why would Seattle be missing a 5th round pick? Fisher was traded for a 6th round, and that future Hall of Famer Frye was acquired for a 6th in a genius trade. The only question is what round pick does Seattle give up for Pearman, who did so much to help the team last year. And it ain't going to be a 5th.
ReplyDeleteRuskell says the missing 5th was for Pearman.
ReplyDeletewe dont have crumpler yet
ReplyDeleteI have updated the post to include the reason for the missing 5th
ReplyDeleteI've been as critical of Ruskell as anyone but I see no reason to criticize the Frye deal.
ReplyDeleteAny Crumpler sightings? Let me know when he has landed.
ReplyDeleteIs there any reason to believe the Hawks will go after any other Free Agent of value?
The above question is mine/.
ReplyDeleteSigning Wahle was huge. I'd rather have him than Brown or Hackett. We added a very good player to our guard position. That was a position where we have 2 terrible starters. Now we only have one terrible guard.
ReplyDeleteWith adding Wahle and resigning Lock, I think our FA period has gone quite well up to this point. We can't sign everybody.
I believe in the draft and usually FAs are hit and miss. I feel like everybody coming out NE is either injured or useless. Branch, Givens, Buta Cain, Daniel Graham, etc.
ReplyDeleteThey must play their players beyond the natural llimits of their bodies and have some crazy drugs. How could I forget Ashworthless. I protest any player out of NE including Asante
Crumpler over Utech? Whoever thinks so is crazy. With Utech we have no reason to worry about a TE for atleast 4-5 years.
ReplyDeleteESPN...if it aint Clayton or Sando, I aint buyin whatever you are selling.
Andrew, I second your comment.
Michael, minor mistakes can be over-looked....just keep the great info rollin in! Thanks! Your efforts are greatly appreciated!
Just a thought to anyone....what if we let Hackett go and spend big money on Bernard Barian (spell check)? Bernard is a major deep threat and we are deep at #2 WR and below. Opinions?
