Two Critical Days Upcoming

Maybe some of you don't know this, or some just haven't thought about it, but Monday and Tuesday are two extremely critical days for the front office. On Wednesday, most of the Seahawks brass, most of the NFL executives, and agents for that matter, will all descend upon the RCA Dome in Indy for the NFL Scouting Combine. So why is this so important....

Well, a lot of contract negotiating goes on at the combine. Unfortunately, most of those deals are signed the first week in March when players make big money switching teams. Also, Thursday is the last day to apply franchise tags. So, Tim Ruskell needs to make some tough decisions on Monday or Tuesday and possibly ink a player or two. If he doesn't, the Seahawks will be behind the proverbial eight ball. Hawk fans could be looking at a team with only one of the four premier UFA's back. By signing one, it would allow the tag to be placed on another. That is probably the best scenario Hawk fans can hope for at this point.

So anyway.... Stay tuned.... the early part of this week will be very telling to the direction of the franchise. I will have all the news and analysis as it breaks right here, so check in often and get the scoop.

  1. I have a feeling that if Trufant gets a big, fat contract that he's going to have a pretty good season in '08.

If he's franchised in '08 I have a feeling that he'll be one of the best corners in the NFL again.

Pretty sad most players, given what they are paid, just can't give it their all under any circumstances.

  3. Hey, did you hear that we got a new QB coach and signed Mike Wahle!? Just saw that on Seahawks Insider!

...but seriously folks. Great post, I was not even aware that this was the week that it was. I really have a good feeling that we're going to keep at least two, possibly three of our UFAs... we shall see though. I think Hackett is a big loss, no matter how injured he's been this year or how much potential we have in Obamanu and the other young'ens... I really hope we keep him.

  4. I can't feel anxious about our free agents. I would like to keep all of them, but if not, then we will have more money for different free agents. If we miss on Tru, maybe we could get that guy from Tampa, and put the rest of the money on another guard for the right side. Bad luck that our guys are all for team mentality except when it comes to payday.

  5. Prediction: Cut our losses with Hackett, too many prospect WR's in training, Franchise Trufant to see if he can duplicate last years efforts, unfortunetly lose Locklear to FA (this sucks), and Brown gets his paycheck (finally, but does he deserve it).

  6. I understand the frustration with DJ and the injuries, but now with Branch possibly out for 08, I am not sure the Hawks should let DJ leave.

  7. Just my prediction, I do not see the Hawks getting 3/4 big FA's signed. Believe me, I would like to see him get in one healthy year just to see what he's got. I know he has all the talent in the world but has yet to be able to showcase it.

  8. how can we keep DJ thou with his injuries unless we get him a at great price? he has great numbers when he plays which last year wasnt near enough for more than 2 mil a year. hope we get to keep him, better yet i hope he can stay healthy next year.
