According to Pat Yasinskas, the Seahawks may have gotten the steal of free agency.
"Who's going to be the most productive free agent? Seattle running back Julius Jones."It is good to hear this prospective coming from someone who doesn't reside in Kirkland. Now, if Ruskell can just get the best TE of the upcoming crop, the Hawks will really have something. It would be nice to see an offense that goes 80 yards for scores on a regular basis again.
Also considering the article is entitled 3rd and Short, it would be nice if that was given again too!

That was a great article. I loved the JJ deal from the get go. I was a huge JJ fan in college and saw how ridiculously under used he was at Dallas. Good thing too because now we got a solid RB that fits in perfect with our O... Now we just need those JJ haters in here to read this article and stop focusing on stats rather than potential.
ReplyDeleteIt always amazes me how you manage to fish out all these great articles from the web. How do you find time for anything else, let alone grad school. I'm in med school right now and know how demanding grad school is and I can't even imagine trying to juggle a family, grad school and the attention you give this blog!!! I barely have enough time to keep up with the Hawks and everything else in the NFL... My hat's off to you buddy. I love this site.

I am continuing to wonder who the Hawks will get to take over the TE position. I am hearing everyone talk about the draft, but I have a concern about that. We are not exactly a young team, we are built to win the Super Bowl in the next 2-3 years. I know not everybody like this idea, but what about Jeremy Shokey. I know he can cause a lot of problems in the club house, but I think that as strong as our team is in the club house that we may be able to calm him down. I don't think that he would cost more then a 2nd round pick and since that is probably what we will spend our 2nd round pick on why not. Anyway just a thought, but I am sure Ruskell will do the right thing. Go Hawks.
ReplyDeleteHawker, I think that you defintely take a young guy over Jeremy Shockey.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I am not one who is drinking the "our windows closing" kool aid. This teams goal should be to remain successful. Just like they made a transition at coach, eventually they will do it at QB. The Chargers just pulled it off.
Considering Shockey is on and off the field so much due to nagging injuries, I definitely think the play is to draft a TE high, the trick is getting the one who can contribute the most, right away.
CTS-- Thanks! Sometimes keeping up with everything is a challenge, but I really enjoy doing the site, so when I am tired, or feeling lazy, it is still easy to do, because I love the Hawks and it is great to share it.
ReplyDeleteKinda makes you wonder why it is so hard for those who are paid more than $5 a day to cover the Hawks, right?
Just my opinion but I'm loving Keller. Now that we have addressed our RB issues, and hopfully picking up J Stew in the 1st, he would be a great catch in the 2nd. I'm not to sure that he'll last til our 2nd pick and think it would be wise to trade up for him. Yeah, we have a solid clubhouse, but why put yourself in that position? Keller's not the most solid blocker, but his receiving capablities fit in perfect with our O and would better benefit us far more than Shockey. If that's your case then why don't we bring Stevens back? Plus, we got Putzier and Heller to balance that position out for now. Let's get a young guy with tons of potential and mould him to our needs. Best bet I think.
ReplyDeleteMichael, for the sake of argument if J Stew somehow dropped to us what could we get out of Mo? I know probably a 5th by him self, but do you think we could trade him and maybe our 4th to get a
2nd? What are the possibilities there? Is there a site that projects trade worth for players? If so can you give me the address? Thanks
CTS
I don't think there is a site that projects trade values.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think it would be surprising to mix players and draft picks. 99% of the time, teams just swap a player for a draft pick.
Because of Mo's low salary, I would think he could probably fetch a 5th. A team gets a solid player for a pick that is at best 50/50 to ever contribute. That 5th would be very valuable to the Hawks though, cause they could use it to get the top kicker on their board who would almost certainly be a contributer.
That's about what I figured just didn't know if mixing was an option. I just really don't think Keller will be on the board by our 2nd pick and really think that he is the best option for the Hawks. I would still like to trade up for him though. Maybe with a couple pick for next years draft, we got some big contracts coming up and will probably have less cap next year anyways.
ReplyDeleteCTS
I am optimistic that we will win at least 1 game in 2008..
ReplyDelete:) :) :) :) :) :)
I didn't mean that our window is closing but I think with this group it may be dwendling. I think management is doing a great job of getting younger yet still winning. I was reading an article on espn.com the other day about the best front offices in the League and I think that they had Seattle in the top five, and I could not agree more.
ReplyDeleteBut back to my point, I understand there is a risk with Schockey but could you imagine how he could spread the field for everyone. Especially if we could calm him down a bit. Mabye a 2nd round pick is a bit much but a 3rd rounder for sure. I think that there is always more risk to drafting then there is in trading for a player. I think that he is a games changer and he could really help us.
