Seahawks Sign Two

According to Danny O'Neil and the Seattle Times, the Seahawks are bringing back some old faces. They have signed D.D. Lewis to fill the reserve linebacker role, and Chris Cooper to help solidify the D Line rotation.

These are some interesting moves. I wonder how much they will be counting on either of these players. The good news is that both should know the system. However, it would seem that both are in danger of losing their roster spots depending on how the draft goes.

No word yet on whether or not Olindo Mare will make it out of Denver with out a contract.

  2. Happy to see Lewis back.

  3. DD Lewis is a good solid linebacker and will fill the Niko hole well. Chris Cooper on the other hand isn't an ideal choice to fill D-line spots but could be better than he use to be...Remains to be seen.

  4. I *HOPE* Mare is offered a contract in Denver, and signs it, because I do NOT want to see that guy kicking for our beloved 'Hawks.

  5. If the Hawks do sign Mare it will be a one year contract and will have to battle it out with a rookie kicker.

    Mare will be cheap.

  6. The only team Mare can make in Seattle is the Sea Gals. Please no, Denver save us, just like you did with Graham last year.

  7. If not Mare, are there any other FA kickers available that could compete with a rookie this year?

  9. Love D.D., don't know much about Cooper.

  10. you guys are looking at this all wrong, Mare is the best kickoff specialist, or at least has the most touchbacks. Right now we have NO kicker. He will come cheap and at the very minimum will be an asset to our kickoff squad. Yes he will compete with a rookie and if he beats the rookie for the starting position then God help us, unless for some miracle he finds his accuracy again.

  11. Actually CTS, stranger things have happened. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a rebound year. His problem has always been kicks over 50 yards, so it would help if Holmgren was a little less conservative inside the 40

  12. I'm glad to see D.D. Lewis back too. Where has he been?

Chris Cooper...not one of my favorite actors. And a bit of a wuss for football, isn't he? Remember his role in "Lonesome Dove"? Jeez.

As for Olinda, the ol' grey mare, she ain't what she used to be.

  14. Chris Cooper is a great actor! American Beauty, Breach, etc..

Anyone else on here a fan of The Wire on HBO? The series just ended, but it was the greatest show of all time.. Deadwood is up there, too.. and Entourage.. and Real Sports.. and Inside the NFL.. notice a theme here?

Anyway, I digress.. Michael, I know Cooper got bumped by Branch, but can you give us some insight? Is he a run stopper, a pass-rusher, a bum? I'm too lazy to do my own online scouting.. If you do, I'll visit one of your 'affiliates' and maybe even buy something..

  15. People- Cooper was an animal in the pre-season and the Hawks cut someone from another position to keep him but then had to cut him later. He was one of the big surprises that year and the cards picked him right up....

  16. I was actually living and working in Austin, TX during the 2006 preseason.. I was starved for Seahawks news.. I relied on Sando's blog, and I remember hearing about Cooper but don't remember his specific strengths..

  17. Scouts Inc:

Cooper is a journeyman backup player who has played seven NFL seasons. He is primarily a defensive end but will align at tackle on passing downs, but is not a great player at either position. Upon being waived by the Seattle Seahawks in 2006 he was signed by the Arizona Cardinals and did not fare much better in his production in Seattle. He lacks functional strength and power at the point of attack against bigger offensive linemen and is easily engulfed and knocked off balance when playing in the trenches. Cooper is not a speed rusher and struggles getting upfield, though he is a competitor and will not quit. He is not a front-line player who will add overall upgrade value to a team.

*Cooper also tested positive in 2004 for HGH*

  18. see you didn't even need me after all

  19. Well, I guess he was on HGH in 2006 too because he made the other DL guys look like they needed some....

  20. Hungry fringe players make the best backups...Rocky Bernard got lazy and injured after signing his big contract--case in point. Not to say I dont like Rocky, but his contract year was kinda like Adrian Beltre's and Brett Boone's--a flash in the pan.
