Ellis Wyms Chooses Vikings

And the hits just keep on coming. Actually, this isn't really that big a deal. If Tubbs is healthy, there is little room for him. Hard to imagine Tubbs being fully healthy, but you never know, he should at the least be very rested.

Here is the blog post for those who want to read about Ellis. It is a one year deal.

  1. Can someone remind me how we got Wymns, wasn't it last FA period for a draft pick? So is this considered a loss for the Hawks, kind of like SF "lost" on DJack for a 4th round pick? This is serious question, I didn't follow this guy at all and don't remember all that transpired.

  2. Michael, I think you may be the only one who was a big advocate of having Wyms back.

  3. Surf Hawk,
We signed Wyms last year as a FA, I think during the pre-season, maybe right after the final cuts. He was cut from Tampa, and we didn't have to give up any draft picks or anything because he was an unrestricted free agent.

  4. I would have liked to have Wyms back.. It's not a huge blow but eventually we need to start replacing some of these role players that are bolting on us..

  5. They had better have a stud DT in mind for the draft, because the way it is looking now it's going to be a NEED pick. Any of you that think Tubbs will ever come back and contribute at a high level are deluding yourselves, wouldn't suprise me if we never see him on the field again...

  9. Why would anyone think Tubbs would be healthy?

He's well over 300 pounds and one knee had micro surgery. That in itself is career threatening for a man that large.

His other knee goes into training camp at less than one full year after tearing an ACL.

Keep in mind that before these two major injuries for a man this size --- he was already injury prone.

I hope I'm wrong, but the reality that we probably shouldn't expect anything and what we can get (if anything) is gravy.

  10. Thanks for the clarification Naz, that makes me feel better about losing him. I hope the Seahawks do get a good DT in the draft, but I agree I hope they don't reach for one.

  11. I'm wondering if the difficulty the 'Hawks seem to be having signing any free agents has to do at all with the fact that the current coaching regime will be changing at the end of this year. Even with the next coach already on staff, it wouldn't shock me if the uncertainty isn't turning some of these guys off...

  12. This guy thinks Julius Jones will play well with the Seahawks - http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/football/cowboys/stories/031408dnspoarcher.4fed8270.html

and here's a scout that doesn't think Stewart will drop in the draft bceause of his toe surgery - http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/football/355004_hawk14.html

  13. Maybe it's just me, but isn't Tubbs a better run-stuffer on crutches than any other dt we have?

  14. *YAWN* who cares about Wyms...rather draft someone than keep this fool.

    ReplyDelete
  15. That means you think Mebane sucks? He's good.

  16. "Maybe it's just me, but isn't Tubbs a better run-stuffer on crutches than any other dt we have?"

On the contrary, Mebane stepped up big last year against the run. He played very stout and controlled the line of scrimage well. I recall at least of couple of great goal line stands last year, although it helps when Lambs can't execute a snap (although Mebane was right in the back-field on that play). I even thought that Rocky played pretty well against the run last year.

  17. I wanted Wyms to resign. He is very versatile, and seemed to be in the right place and was causing Havoc in backfield whenever he managed to get onfield.

    Screw the Vikings!

We better hope Tubbs plays the whole year.

  18. Does anyone know how much "dead" money we have against the cap this year?

  19. Wistrom counts 4.667 against the cap from last year

  20. We need more beef upfront anyway.

  21. As for Mebane, he did do a great job last year and was very good, but i'm not sure that he was game planned against. Maybe i'm wrong, but when Tubbs is out there he HAS to be accounted for.

  22. I noticed the post concerning the poison pill had been closed, so I'm giving my little 2 bits worth here. First of all I think that the comment about the poison pill and Hutch being a dickhead, and Minnesota being scumbags was right on the mark.
Also I am sick of these little mooks on these sites that are worried about spelling, all caps, and unimportant intellectual jackoff stuff like that! Show me the beef bitch! You guys are bringin up some good stuff and have some smart comments. The mooks should go to Starbuck's and hang out with the other lightweights.
Keep it up, your guys are the bomb!

  23. Isn't it fun having a team good enough to lose edge or bubble players and think we have to sweat that stuff? Less than 10 years ago, we were dying to get even sniff the playoffs. Now some fans second guess the FO if the new water boy is a little slow getting on the field. I'm rooting for a solid set of free agent back-ups and some draft picks that will enhance this team. Go Hawks.

  24. Yeah, my bad, I should have known any thread about Hutch and the Poison Pill was gonna have be shut down. I am sure some of you saw the final few comments which were deleted. It was getting ugly.

I don't like to do that, but I will not think twice if I think it will help maintain the integrity of this site.

  25. Michael, you write: "I don't like to [delete comments], but I will not think twice if I think it will help maintain the integrity of this site.

Just out of curiosity, will that apply when we are visited by the oh-so-friendly fans of other teams?

  26. If they come here and start calling people names and using obscene language I will.

If they come and discuss football issues, i expect all of you to debate them vigorously and provide valid arguments if you disagree with their assessments.

  27. following up on my previous post, I guess I would vote (I know, this ain't a democracy) for a spectrum of allowable contention and/or rudeness. Polarizing subjects such as Hutch, SA should be monitored a bit more closely. Name calling, particularly of the witty stripe, should be somewhat allowed when the target is, say, an absurd niner troll.

    WHO'S WITH ME!??

  28. bk, and others, you can put me down as one of the lunatics... but I think there is a decent chance that Tubbs comes back and contributes to the DT rotation Big Time this year.

It was actually pretty amazing how quickly and fully he recovered from microfracture surgery before last season. The risk was that he came back too soon and that might have caused problems. As fate would have it, snapping the ACL on the other knee forced him to continue resting and rehabbing the micro-fractrue knee for another year. It might have saved his career. We'll see. An ACL tear can fully recover. It was the microfracture knee I was worried about.

Tubbs proved last year he was very disciplined in his rehab. If he does it again, look out. Tubbs next to Mebane *could* be the best D line we have had.

    Here's Hoping Big Time.
