Seahawks Eye Tackle Prospect

According to this report by Edward Aschoff from Gatorsports.com, the Seahawks are one of a couple teams who have spoken with Flordia tackle Carlton Medder. Medder is 6'5", 319 lbs. He started at right tackle for the Gators his senior year.

NFL Draft Scout
has him rated as the 34th best tackle, but some say he can also play guard. He was second team all conference in 2007.

This shows me that Tim Ruskell may be looking to take a tackle, just later in the draft. Many people seem to be promoting the idea of the Hawks finding their left tackle of the future in this years 1st round, however, I an not one of them. I believe that a first round pick needs to play, and soon. It is the only way to get value out of a first round contract. A tackle would be projected as a back up for the next 2-3 years at least, so a late round pick makes a lot more sense to me. Here is evidence that maybe the FO is thinking the same way. END

  1. Good find Mike. This guy would obviously be a project pick. I still think it is more likely we draft a DT in the first round than anything else. TR likes the defensive first pick (jennings, wilson).

  2. It may seem he likes the defensive pick but that was a need for us the past couple seasons and wilson is really a second rounder. with all the movement in free agency taking place on the offensive side, like defense last year maybe they stay with the offense and pick TE,RB, or OL.

  3. I would expect to see a lot of the picks focus on the offensive side of the ball. The team is clearly aging at key positions(lg,lt,rb)and missing others (te)

  4. Hey Michael, question, what's the deal with Pearman, I had totally forgotten about him until I realized we gave our 5th for him this year.

What is your take on what that was all about?

  5. If we arent going to plan on using a o lineman pick for another 2-3 years, I would rather see us wait until next year pick a left tackle early and groom him behind walt for most likely 2 years, and with this years late picks just pick best available, and if best available is a o lineman then go for it, but in my opinion we seem to have numerous o lineman under contract next year?

  6. I think you may have mis read the post knutson_11. It doesn't say that they won't pick a line man for 2-3 years, it says that any TACKLE they take wouldn't be projected to start for 2-3 years.

  7. Pearman is gone, they didn't tender him a contract. A couple teams have shown interest, but nothing happened, so my guess is his knee is still a problem

  8. I don't disagree that we will focus on the offense in the draft; however, it doesn't seem like any of the TE's are first rounders; I guess it would depend on what level of O-line picks and/or if stewart is available by our pick. I could see us drafting a DT like Balmer if none of those guys drop.

  10. One thing that history has shown with Ruskell is that he likes his picks to be the focus of team needs. This is obvious, but with how his picks have performed as a whole I think we don't give TR enough credit. That is the problem with the first round. A lot of people think just because you take someone in the first round that that person should be ready to play. It seems to me that TR tries to pick guys based on not only team needs but personality, academics, and overall athleticism of the payers. These factors are crucial to how a guy fits in with our gameplan. I think we as fans and amatuer analysts should have a little more faith in our GM.

  11. The team has already announced that we have given that 5th rounder up.

We also get back Jac's 7th, which is good, because we gave our 7th up for Josh Parry

  12. To add to my previous comment...I don't think we get a large amount of value from a first pick just becasue he can play right away. I mean look at Reggie Bush he is a valued player and he didn't even score his first rushing TD until what, half way through his rookie season. Also, there is no way that TR is going to pick defense for a first round this year because the need on offense is more appearant than that of defense. The main focus with the "D" is locking up Tru for now. I definitely think we will go after a defensive player but later in the rounds and lets remember we still need a kicker....

  13. Dirtyhawk-

you say we still need a kicker as if we'll even entertain the idea of addressing that position on day one or early day two. If Tru does not make a deal, we will draft a CB in the 1st. Would kinda be hamstringed into doing so. Other wise unless a big name on D drops (like Balmer or Merling) we will focus on O. That's probably not likely though. This has all of the makings to be another TR "what the f*ck!!" kind of draft that will work out for the better in the long run.

  14. sorry to confuse you...cts but i do know that we will not pick up a kicker in the early rounds. I was just trying to make a point to say that there is no appearant need for a defensive first or second round pick; even if we don't lock up trufant now. Trufant has more value to us if we trade him for an early pick for next years draft. If we don't lock him up and we might be able trade him early enough to get a second first round pick or second pick for the 2nd round in this draft, wich will allow us to then go after a CB. I just don't see us going after a CB in this draft just becasue we don't lock up TRU. Just to throw this out too but I think we still go after Stewart in the first round. because after all who picks up another teams #2 RB and a teams #3 RB with the intent of one of them starting?

  15. TR... enough said. He sees that JJ was overshadowed and underrated. TJ just for short yardage. I know that neither one can carry the sole burden and neither are elite but together they make one hell of a RB. I was just saying that we will need to address our CB situation if Tru falls through and don't really see that happening in FA. Not too sure I'm comfortable with giving Tru's job to a late 1st day pick.

Maybe we are delaying getting the Tru deal done as part of Timmy's draft strategy to confuse other teams about what pos. we'll pick. Maybe they'll announce the deal one day after the draft. That would rule. ;)

  17. Hey Mike, I think it's fair to say that the Seahawks will pick up a DT in the draft, but do you think it would be a good idea to sign Grady Jackson to a 1-2 year deal? The guy is one of the best in the game and though he is getting old, he may be a good mentor too the rookie we get. What do you think?

Thanks for the up to date info, I find myself checking your site at least 4 times a day.

  18. Grady Jackson has no shot will TR at the helm. Major attitude and plus no way he is taking league minimum. It will be interesting to see if Marcus Tubbs can perform. We might end up with a ridiculous DT rotation is everybody is healthy. Mebane, Bernard, Tubbs, Terrill. Not much running is happening through the middle
