Wyms likely to Sign Today

With either the Vikings or the Seahawks. According to this report in the Nashville City Paper.
They’re out of the running. They’re not going to be able to do for him what a team like Minnesota can,” said agent Brian Levy, who said that the Vikings and Seattle Seahawks are the possible landing spots for his client. “We should get something done today.”
The Seahawks haven't seemed very interested in re-signing many of their own 2nd tier free agents, however, Wyms is a good pick up. He can play any spot on the D line.

My general feeling right now, it that the team is just trying to get younger. Maybe now is a good time, considering the up coming regime change and current salary cap situation.

  1. I thought Wyms play last season was a nice surprise. He played pretty well, stuffing the run and putting pressure on qb's quite a bit even though he didnt have many sacks. He made a difference with his limited playing time.

I dont think his age should keep the Hawks from signing him. Our depth is lacking on the line, and Wyms is a valuable, cost-effective part of the rotation.

    Besides, I hate the Vikings!

  3. Oh great, all we need is another smurf who cant go deep.

  4. If we dont get Wyms back is there any chance of us going after someone like Triplett? Seems like we could get him at a decent cost, and i think he would become one of our stronger interior lineman?

  6. This is a comment I just posted in the Poison Pill thread, and I am pasting it here too because I want to make sure everybody sees it.

THIS BULL SH*T NAME CALLING better stop. The regulars who have put in time here an are regular posters discuss football issues, not trying to demean each other.

We all know it is real easy to be a tough guy hiding behind a computer. Be better than that. I don't like deleting comments, but I will shut them off in a heartbeat if I see this site resembling anything like the comments over at the TNT of late.

    FOOTBALL TALK ONLY!!!!!!!!!!

Argue the issues and not the person.

  8. Wyms probably signs with the Vikings.

Davis would probably be more a special teams player.

  9. well put michael.

what do you think about us drafting a receiver like james hardy early? where is projected in most mocks?

    ReplyDelete
  10. I don't think the Seahawks will be drafting a receiver early. Why? When they like the guys they have and have had so much success with late round picks...Hackett(5th) Obamanu(7th) Taylor (6th), Payne (UD). With the Seahawks it is the system and the Qb, not the receivers.

That said, Ruskell will probably surprise the hell out of me and choose one in the 1st. Who Knows?

  11. hardy is projected late first early second round.

  12. Hartwig looking like a possibility now?

  13. I heard the Chiefs are after Hartwig pretty hard. Hawks might not get a chance.

  15. Thanks Hawk Nest. Hopefully all of the regulars around here will help police situations like that and tell people it is not welcome here, rather than engaging the person and exacerbating the situation.

    Good Job Hawk Nest

  16. I wonder how Tubbs is doing?

1.75 mil/yr for Hack? It is disappointing we lost him for that.

I get enamored with players like Limas Sweed - with thoughts of the next Randy Moss. He could be the next Reggie Williams (UW/JAX). Like I pointed out w/ D-Jack and Michael also conveyed was the success of our system vs. that success based on a players' individual talent.

It would be a big surprise if we took a WR in round one, but I'd be excited if we did. Our FO often knows what we don't, and skill players always boost my adrenaline. How deflating was it when we took Spencer in the 1st? Just not the same fun!

  17. These draft people

    http://sports.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/story?page=snmock08

say we're taking an OT in the first because our top draft 'need' is right offensive tackle.

    The answer is:

    Who is Sean Locklear, Alex.

East Coast ignorance or my own? Things that make you say hmmmnnn.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The only reason we would take a tackle is if he represents the best player available.

Also, it is rare to get a top notch tackle late in the first, so the team may take one realizing they may not pick in the top 10 for a loooooooooooooooooooooong time

  19. Are the Seahawks feeling "Wymsical" today?

    ReplyDelete
  20. With Wyms and Darby gone we absolutely need another impact DT. I love the guys we have and hope that Tubbs will come back but even in a best case scenario we need someone who can contribute in order to fill the rotation. Do you think we will draft high for one?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think they would like to sign Wyms because, much like the RB's, it allows TR total flexibility outside of TE and Kicker.

Kicker, is coming late in the draft anyway, but if he isn't forced to pick a player to fill a hole then he can work on improving the future of the club, and not the present.

  22. The thing that is annoying me is that we have taken a few guys off of the scrap pile and helped them resurect their careers and then they leave. We did it with Joey J when nobody wanted him and he left for less money, Wyms was out of a job in september too and we gave him a chance, I would like to think that this isn't all of to FO's doing, or is it?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Jurevicious went to Cleveland because the Browns were his hometown team growing up. It's hard to fault the guy for that.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I would have loved to keep Joe J. because he was one of about 5 receivers in Seattle history with good hands...

    Seriously...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Since we're in such need of backup LB, is the team interested in looking outside the draft?

There's a pretty solid guy out at Western Washington University, Shane Simmons who's been pretty awesome for them. I know its NCAA Div II, but not all D2 players are bad. (Babineaux, Weaver, Kitna, Vinatieri)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I understand that, but wasn't Joey J's wife from Washigton. Also, Cleveland didn't show any interest in him when nobody but the Hawks wanted him. I know he was from Cleveland but Seattle gave him a chance when nobody else did. I guess I am a fool to think that there is some sort of loyalty in the NFL, but wouldn't it be nice.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I heard talk in various places that Jurevicious didnt feel comfortable in Seattle, as much of the team is young, black, and into rap music. Jurevicious is very serious, and a hard-core christian. From what I heard, he didnt care for the locker room atmosphere.

Which sounds like a load of crap, considering every single team is african-american majority, and most folks of any race under the age of 30 seem to like rap.

Point is (i guess) that Joe J wasnt comfortable here, and though he had 1 family member in Mercer Island, his hometown is Cleveland and he wanted to go home.

He played his heart out for us, and didnt owe the Hawks a damn thing.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Nobody needs to criticize a guy like JJ. Yes, I wanted to keep him badly but he wanted to go home and the previous post was correct, he played his heart out for us and didn't owe us a thing after his contract expired.

And if he doesn't like (c)rap music and the hip-hop-junk-rap music culture, good for him. I agree.
