Hawks Re-Sign Putzier, Thoughts Going into Sunday

by: Mike Parker

The Seahawks have re-signed Jeb Putzier as the third tight end on the depth chart. I was under the impression that he was cut to make room for signing Jamar Adams off the practice squad, but that doesn't appear to be the case. With Mike Wahle out for the foreseeable future, perhaps the team was thinking of beefing up its blocking game in the short run. Putzier has proven that he's not a reliable receiving target, and John Carlson has been the go-to guy for catches this season anyway, no matter which QB is under center.

Speaking of QBs, there still hasn't been word as to whether or not Hasselbeck will start Sunday against the Redskins. At this point in the season and after the beating he took against Arizona, I'm not exactly in favor of rushing him back in there. There's really no reason to do it, unless Seneca's groin injury is still keeping him immobile and the coaching staff doesn't want to put Frye in.

I'm still in favor of seeing the younger guys get in there and make an impact. We have nothing to lose at this point in the season. I hate to say it, but we're in the midst of a prolonged stretch of garbage time now. Why not rotate Vallos, Willis, Wrotto and Adams into the lineup? How about letting Brandon Coutu kick some field goals and seeing Michael Bumpus catch some more passes? (I still think he's better than Jordan Kent.)

It's otherwise a slow news day in all things Hawks--come to think of it, it's been kind of a slow and otherwise depressing week--so fire away with the discussion.

[UPDATE: To make room for Putzier on the roster, Jamar Adams was sent back to the practice squad. -Ed.]
