Big Questions for Sunday

by: Michael Steffes

Here is my take on some of the big quetions and keys for the Seahawks' game this weekend:

Is this offensive line ready for prime time?
The Giants defense will present the strongest test to date for the offensive line. They can stuff the run, and they can get after the quarterback. While this line seems much improved over the last few games, it won't be until Sunday that we find out if all the offseason changes really have put unit at the top of the class. Can the Seahawks pressure Eli Manning?
The Giants lead the league in sacks, but the Hawks aren't far behind. This is a defense that is predicated on pressure. Manning will be missing his security blanket in Plaxico Burress. If the Hawks can get some pressure and get some people in his face, chances are Eli will make some suspect throws. Also, the Seahawks' secondary seems to match up well now without Burress on the field; however, the Giants' receivers will get open if the quarterback has all day, Burress or no. Can the Seahawks start fast? We have heard it a million times already, but will this be the week that the Seahawks finally shake their East Coast troubles? If the Hawks can come out fast and get some points on the board they will likely be in this game until the end. If they fall behind, it might be a heyday for the Giants' pass rush. Getting some first quarter points and taking an early lead will allow Mike Holmgren to keep the offense balanced. We have got healthy receivers now, but this team isn't likely to be successful if it has to pass the ball 50-some times. Match-up to watch: Hawks versus Jet Lag

What will the return of the WRs mean for John Carlson? My thoughts are that this could be both good and bad for Carlson. I think he will probably see fewer passes now that Branch and Engram are back. However, I think that Carlson is going to find himself with a lot more space in the middle of the field. He is going to get a lot of opportunities versus linebackers and safeties in one-on-one coverage. The Giants' linebackers have had problems in coverage so far this year, and their safeties have as well. Match-up to watch: Johnny C. versus Michael Johnson ~END~
