Will Herring, who has spent the beginning of the season on the PUP list, is back and ready to go. He practiced today and told reporters that the team informed him that they will activate him for Sunday's game. Herring will most likely make an immediate contributions on special teams. He proved to be valuable there last year.
The team has three weeks to make a decision on Herring, but at some point they will have to clear a spot for him on the roster. They could release a player like Baraka Atkins, who has yet to see game action, or maybe David Hawthorne who hasn't made the same impact as he did during the preseason. Either way, it will be an interesting decision. Of course, and this is for the conspiracy theorists, they could also open up a roster spot by placing someone on IR. There seems to be some speculation that Matt's back injury is not a short term thing, but the team has not made any statements to that effect yet. ~END~
