2009 MVP

by: Chris Sullivan

Alright, I know it's a bit early to be proclaiming any MVPs, but after the poor performances by Brees and Warner this week and the re-emergence of Adrian Peterson as one of the hottest backs in the league, the latter is now getting a lot of the buzz as week fifteen of the NFL closes. But, I have another nominee altogether, someone I haven't heard getting a lick of buzz for reasons unbeknownst to me: DeAngelo Williams.

While Peterson has run to the tune of 1,400 yards and 8 touchdowns (+1TD recieving), averaging 4.8 yards per carry and generally running over the NFC North like a bulldog in heat, DeAngelo Williams has, in my estimation, had a better year and has been more integral to his team's success.

As of this evening, the Panthers have the best record in the NFC at 11-3 (tied with the Giants). DeAngelo Williams has run for more than 1200 yards and 14 touchdowns while splitting carries with Jonathan Stewart, a dark horse candidate for Rookie of the Year himself. More than that, in the last 8 games the Panthers are 7-1 and Williams has run for 876 yards and 12 touchdowns (+1 recieving). On the season, he has 5.4 yards per carry (Shaun Alexander in 2005, as a basis of comparison, had 5.1 yards per carry.

Anyway, this is basically a tangent--I was going to write up a post about who would be the Seahawks MVP this year, but since the winner was pretty clearly John Carlson or Olindo Mare, that was pretty much that. So, whatever.

To whom would you guys give the MVP? ~END~
