Mike Sando has re-posted his All NFC West team from mid-year. His list included seven Seahawks (3 on offense, 4 on defense) and a couple of them are surprises. The biggest surprise (literally and figuratively) to me was seeing Porkchop Womack as the best RG in the division.
Now, this isn't a surprise in some ways--the division is composed of a number of mediocre offensive lines, after all. It is surprising in that I don't think any of the writers on this blog has really given Womack the credit he deserves this year.
Womack has started all but one of the Seahawks' games (Rob Sims, if you recall, tore his pectoral in the opener). Porkchop has been a consistent, if not dominant, force on the right side of the line regardless of whether it was Willis or Locklear lining up beside him at the end, or Spencer or Vallos in the middle. We saw a resurgence of our running game for much of the year due largely in part to the better performance of the offensive line; 2007 seems like a long way away, but so do the two biggest problems then: the run game and the O-line. Womack has done this year what he's done every year, which is step up and play well where ever he is asked to play.
Moreover, he has historically been plagued with injuries (he has never played a full season, and prior to this year had never started more than 10 games in a year), but he has stayed healthy when we most needed him to while the rest of the line fell to a plethora of shoulder and back ailments.
