Giants/Seahawks Making for a Good Rivalry

by: Michael Steffes

Not too long ago, we talked about the Seahawks and their biggest rivals. One of the general feelings I got from all of you was that it is hard to consider any of our divisional opponents big rivals, mainly because they haven't consistently been competitive. Well, it seems as if the Seahawks v. Giants is turning into quite a little rivalry game.

Take a look at some reaction to the game . . .

The NJ Star-Legder is running with a new angle: our fans versus your fans. After posting Sean O'Hara's pleas for crowd noise yesterday, they have followed it up with the reactions that Seahawks fans had when hearing that the Giants fans like to exercise their right to be docile.

Also, the Big Blue View Giants blog has taken John Morgan's analysis of the Giants as a shot across the bow, and they are firing back. ETVal, the writer on Big Blue View, says this:

Morgan has done some lengthy analysis of the Giants defense, offense and running backs. Reading what he has to say you would think the 1-2 Seahawks are coming to Giants Stadium as, oh, two-touchdown favorites instead of 7-point underdogs.
The makings of a good rivalry usually grow from teams who play each other often (they've now met three out of the last four years), and have competitive, emotional games. If you look back at the Seahawks-Giants games in recent history, they certainly fit this mold. Shockey celebrating early on one of three game-winning field goals that were missed by Jay Feely. The Hawks going up 28-0 in the first half, then Eli and crew making a furious comeback in the second.

Also, as Seahawks fans, we often feel slighted by the East Coast centric media. Who represents this better than the NY Giants? Add in the Seahawks' desperate need for a win this week and we have the makings of another classic battle. Who knows, maybe the teams will even play twice this year? Now that would really fuel this fire.

To do our part, Seahawk Addicts has another NY Giants source, Greg Hanlon of NYGmen.com coming on the podcast this week. We will get to see what he thinks about why this game has become such a brouhaha. ~END~
