Giants Cautious of Upset

by: Michael Steffesf

I thought you all might be interested in this article from the NY Times, which does a good job of looking at the game from the Giants' standpoint. It talks about the Giants being ripe for an upset. To quote,

If any team might be in danger of being upset this week, it could be the Giants, the defending Super Bowl champions, who will enter having played only three games in 37 days after their preseason ended on Aug. 28.

They are coming off a bye week. They could be stale. They might be distracted by the suspension of Plaxico Burress and the illness of one of his backups, Mario Manningham. Plus, there was the arrest of a backup running back, Danny Ware, last weekend in Georgia.
The Giants are one of the top teams in the league, no doubt. However, it does seem that they have some distractions floating around right now. There is no way to quantify the effects of any of this off the field stuff. One thing is for sure though, they should want to put a licking on the Seahawks. Many of their current players were around for the last two trips to Qwest, both of which seemed to leave the Giants in turmoil. It might be payback time.

The article goes on to talk about the Giants' struggles at home. It is funny how poor they have been, but I suppose that's because we are used to having a team that defends its home turf. As the article states,
Last season, the Giants were 3-5 at home. This year they are 2-0. But they have not always looked sharp. In their first game, a 16-7 victory at home over Washington, they scored only one touchdown. In the second, a 41-13 victory at St. Louis, they led by only 7 points in the fourth quarter. In the third, a 26-23 victory over Cincinnati at home, they needed a field goal in overtime.
So while ESPN continues to heap praise on the G-men, there are other outlets who follow the team that aren't so bullish. Considering the Hawks really need to win this game, this is good stuff to hear. Hope springs eternal, my friends. On any given Sunday, right? And hopefully this is the Hawks' Sunday to shine. ~END~
