NFL Continues to Fail to Enforce Its Own Rules

by: Chris Sullivan

Though this is not really a surprise, it is absolutely outrageous: Justin Tuck was not fined for his brutal and malicious attempt to injure Matt Hasselbeck's knee. To me, this was among the most flagrant attempts to injure that I had seen in the NFL.

For those who don't remember the play (or didn't see it), Tuck was blocked low, but changed directions, planted and dove for Matt's knee, while wrapping his arms around it and pulling him down in a twisting manner. The hit was as flagrant as the NFL's disregard for its own rules this season. I fear our league may regress to NBA status before not much longer.

LARGELY UNRELATED UPDATE: Apparently DeSean Jackson and a Quentin Demps were fined for "excessive celebration." Did they boogie down, climb the goalposts and pee on the field? Close! They crossed their arms, looked at eachother, and shook their heads up and down. They have been fined $10,000 each. In case you were wondering if there could be a more absurd fine than pointing to your own jersey, I think we may now know.
