Eagles Franchise L.J. Smith

Well, Andy Ried and Co. certainly didn't waste anytime on this one. Today was the first day the franchise tag could be applied and they slapped it right on tight end L.J. Smith. Clearly, they were not interested in negotiating a long term contract, instead opting to only commit to one year and see if he could stay healthy and make an impact again.

As for Seahawk fans, L.J. Smith would not have been the worst option at tight end. He plays in a very similar system and is still on the right side of 30. Unless god strikes Bill Polian with lightning rendering him retarded, and thus allowing Dallas Clark to hit FA, the Hawks will REALLY need to draft a TE. Of course we said that last year and they took a grip of WRs instead.
