Unsung Hero of the Day: D.D. Lewis

by: Chris Sullivan

With news that Leroy Hill will miss the Patriots game with a stinger injury, I thought it was worth throwing a quick word out about D.D. Lewis. When Koutovides and Bentley left in the offseason, the Hawks brought back D.D. Lewis to back the linebacking corps up. A number of people were skeptical, a lot just remembered him as being a solid but not great contributor in past Seahawk teams.

Well, Lewis has gotten a lot more playing time than we had expected. With Tatupu missing the better part of three games and Hill missing more than half of the the Cowboys game and all of the upcoming Pats game (at least), Lewis has played a pretty integral role on defense when he's been in.

In the four games where he has been asked to step up, Lewis has 34 tackles--not bad when you consider he was brought in off the bench in three of those and asked to take the remainder of the defensive snaps (or pretty close). Furthermore, Lewis has played very well, not given up any big plays, constantly been in on run and short pass plays, and just overall played his heart out. I've constantly been impressed with Lewis when he has been in (and he has been a solid contributor on special teams, too, with at least one tackle in all but one game this season).

Here's to you, Mr. Lewis! ~END~
