For Favre fans out there, Merry Christmas! For Favre haters out there, Merry Christmas!
ESPN has issued a breaking news report that Brett Favre has been traded to the New York Jets, who will be playing in Seattle on December 21. Jay Glazer says that the compensation has not been revealed yet, but that its a single 2009 draft pick that will be determined based on Favre reaching certain benchmarks. My guess is its a 3rd round that could move up to a 2nd or even first.
Look for this to possibly move up to the Sunday Night Football game, as it will almost certainly be the final Favre - Holmgren meeting. If the Jets are any good this year (Favre should help that), they could be contending for the AFC East if the Pats fall apart a bit.
...that said, it is still the Jets, so I wouldn't count on them winning more than 2 games, but hey, time will tell! What do you guys think?
UPDATE: Thanks to our homie DKSB over at Dave Kreig's Strike Beard we've got the terms of the trade:
Pack gets a 4th rounder right now, BUT
-If Favre plays 50% or more of the snaps, it becomes a 3rd rounder
-If he plays 70%+ and NYJ makes playoffs, it's a 2nd rounder
-80%+ and an appearance in XLIII? GB gets a 1st round pick
