Julius to Sign Tonight

NFL Total Access just reported that Adam Schefter was told Jones could sign as early as Friday night which would be followed by Shaun Alexander's release.

Personally, it would have to be a heck of a deal for me to be on board. I still think that Derrick Ward would be a better choice. Jones is an underachiever. Plus, I would like the Hawks to retain the ability to pick a highly rated Rb in the draft and still cut someone in camp. Who Knows? At least they keep it interesting.

There have been plenty of running backs that have excelled in their second city. Priest Holmes and Chester Taylor both come to mind. Jones is a lot like Maurice Morris, but a little faster. He certainly has shown flashes of brilliance, and most of them in Seattle.

There are two things that could be at play here. To Continue....

The first, PapaHawk brought it up yesterday. The running back market is down this year. Jones would usually have gotten a deal pretty quick, but right now the league is enamored with the Ryan Grant theory, thinking we can get a RB in a late round or for cheap. The only problem is that for every Grant a lot of backs have to flop.

Second, Tim Ruskell likes to go into a draft with as few need picks as possible. This is why he surprised everybody with Marcus Pollard last year. He just refuses to be bullied into picking a position due to his roster. He signed Putzier. By signing Jones, he has made the draft a best talent available situation. People might say we have to get a DT, but if, and it is a big if, Tubbs is healthy, there are already 5 DT's in the rotation. All those who want the Hawks to take a tackle should be on board with this move.
