The Cincinnati Enquirer is reporting that Bengals linebacker Caleb Miller is heading to Kirkland/Renton for a visit.
The Hawks are still looking to add depth after losing Kevin Bentley and Niko Koutouvides. For Millers' scouting report......
2007 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.
Grade: 60 | Key
Alert: None
Comment: Miller recorded 100 tackles in 2006 after getting the most playing time of his young career, mostly due to injuries to the Bengals' starting linebackers. He is very tall and somewhat lean with a narrow build that probably will not add much more bulk. He plays stronger than his long build would indicate, but by no means is a hammer at the point of attack. He is best suited to play on the weak side, but has some linebacker versatility and is also a fine special teams player. He has very good vision and knowledge of what opposing offenses are trying to accomplish. He reacts quickly and doesn't take a lot of false steps. He has good range and above-average overall straight line speed. Miller has a good feel for coverage and is comfortable moving in reverse. While he is smooth changing directions, he is not very explosive or sudden in any of his movements and will not stun blockers with power. He also gets too high, which is a byproduct of his build, and becomes a major liability as a take on player when his pads are too high. He can be slow to shed and really has his hands full against bigger mauling blockers. While reliable, he is not a blow-up tackler. Miller works hard and continues to improve, but he has to be more consistent overall and has some lapses that really hurt his team. Also, he is not built to take the constant pounding of being an every-down player and could be best used as a backup and on throwing downs, as he has shown some durability problems in the past. Miller is still young and should continue to improve, but his true value is as a below average starting outside linebacker and as a valuable special teams player.
Notice statements like "plays stronger than his long build would indicate", and "very good vision and knowledge of what opposing offenses are trying to accomplish", and even "valuable special teams player". Folks, meet the Hawks new 4th linebacker.
