Seahawk Wish List

I thought I would distract everyone for a moment from the soap opera that the Shaun situation has become. I thought it could make for a good discussion to talk about what the Hawks still need to do in free agency. Obviously, it won't be big name guys, but depth is clearly needed. Lets look at needs, and who might fill them.

I have these ranked from most important to least.....

1) Defensive End... Currently the depth chart reads Kerney, Tapp, and Babin. Not good, especially considering that Babin couldn't make the active roster for any games last year. If Kerney or Tapp were to get hurt, god forbid, this D could go from top 10 to bottom 10. Pressure is the key.

Here is who is available. Ellis Wyms would be good, but appears likely to sign in Minny. Corey Smith of Det is another guy that seems to be getting some interest around the league. Beyond that, the market is pretty bare. Kevin Carter is effective, but old. Look for a definite DE in the draft.

2) Middle Linebacker.... Obviously this is to backup Lofa. After losing Bentley and Koutouvides, they team doesn't really have any one experienced to man the middle behind Lofa. Usually this player is also a big contributer on special teams

The Hawks have looked at Nick Greisen and Caleb Miller. They seem to be the top options anyway. The Browns have several linebackers available, but they don't seem to be garnering a lot of interest. Their names are Matt Stewart and Chuan Thompson. Derrick Pope is another possibility.

3) Veteran Kicker to compete with rookie. Obviously, the team would feel better about having a veteran kicker as opposed to a rookie. However, with the way rookies performed last year, this is a lesser concern.

The big name on the market is Jason Elam. He made 2.4 million last year and seems to be seeking a rich deal, so I wouldn't expect the Hawks to go after him. Others include the simply awful pair of Mare and Vanderjagt. Maybe someone will get released in camp that the Hawks can use.

4) Wide receiver. This has dropped down the list simply due to the Hawks depth. I did some analysis that showed, while scary, it may just be best to go young at this position rather than risk losing either Payne or Kent, both who now have longer term deals. They do not appear very interested in bringing Hackett back.

5) Long Snapper. The Hawks need a long snapper. I have no idea who is available because there is no real comprehensive list of free agent long snappers. My guess is they sign a few undrafted long snappers and see if any can man the position. Maybe they get the guy who long snapped for whatever kicker they draft. That mike make sense.

The one receiver that the Hawks are known to have interest in is Rashied Davis. I doubt that anybody else is really on the radar as everyone else is either old or had injury histories. The will stick with the young guys, lets hope it works out.

Any other positions on the wish list?? Feel free to discuss....
