Three Reasons Morris Won't be Cut

Clare Farnsworth was on Mitch Levy's show on KJR this morning, and he said he is becoming more convinced that it is Morris who will be shown the door this week. I strongly disagree. Here is why....

1) Any running back on this team will be splitting carries. If you think as a business, would you rather pay someone 1 million or 4.4 million for approximately equal part time production?
Morris makes 1 million this year. If they keep Shaun they have to dole out 4.4 in paychecks.

2) Morris' salary makes him a possibility for a trade. Even if it is a late round pick. If a running back falls in the draft, and then represents the best player available at 25, having Morris on the middle night of draft day might get you something. Shaun Alexander and the 40 mil owed to him in the next 5 years will not.

3) The Hawks have very limited funds available under the cap. At the least, they still need to sign a backup linebacker/special teams player. They will probably want to ink a veteran kicker to compete also. They may even bring Hackett back, depending on low his price tag goes. Money has to come from somewhere, and clearing 4.4 mil does more than clearing 700k, which is what they would clear by cutting Mo Mo.
