How did the Hawks defense stack up?

by: Chris Sullivan

I think that one of the biggest issues most people had in watching our first string defense was that they just didn't look all that good. Trufant had a bad quarter and it appeared that we just didn't have any intensity to match what the vikings were putting out there. As people have mentioned in the comments, this is probably mostly due to the lack of blitzing -- we weren't really trying to force Jackson into any mistakes, so its not a huge shock he didn't make too many. While people are praising him this weekend, the bottom line is that Tarvaris looked like a very mediocre-at-best quarterback to me and most non-ESPN viewers.

Still, Danny O'Neil wrote today about how the defense looked pretty weak out there, focusing a lot on the secondary. John Morgan over at FieldGulls wrote up a nice bit of analysis on how bad the defense really was... which is to say, not very bad at all. Check it out, and leave your comments like usual. The blog will probably be a little slow today, just so you guys know, as I've got quite a bit of personal bidness to attend to in the latter half. I'm hoping to get some notes up from the first practice of the day first though... END
