Even though the Bobby Engram contract situation might have taken a back seat to the rest of the news coming out of Seahawks camp -- both good and bad -- it's still a very big concern for Bobby himself.
But, as Scott Johnson of the Everett Herald discusses here, he's putting the team first and not worrying about himself for now.
Much like he has done for most of his eight-year career with the Seahawks, Engram spends his days practicing hard, helping younger teammates and staying out of the headlines. What makes this year notable, of course, is the fact that there was a very real possibility that Engram might not be here at all.
I think this story gives an absolutely accurate portrayal of who Bobby Engram really is, both as a football player and as a person. He might not be happy with his current contract with the team, but he's one of the rare few who puts the team first before himself.
Guys like Chad Johnson, Steven Jackson and Terrell Owens wouldn't even know how to begin thinking this way. What's more is Bobby had arguably the best season of his career last year and still remained mostly under the radar of the league and the media, while the aforementioned three drama queens get more attention than a puppy in a store window.
What's even more admirable? Bobby is poised to have another killer season with an elite QB throwing to him, and he'll definitely contribute to making the younger group of receivers better as well. When all is said and done, it's reassuring to have guys like Bobby on your team. -END-
