There was quite a bit of stirring in the off-season about signing Jeb Putzier a year or two ago, but it never materialized. He went to Houston and faded into oblivion for the most part. However, Putzier is a local guy (born and raised in Idaho, went to school at Boise State), and showed flashes of--well, maybe not brilliance, but darn-good-ness in Denver and throughout his college career. For more information (and a little graphic...)
An interesting bit of trivia about Putzier: his first ever start was against Seattle on November 17, 2002 when the Broncos opened the game in a two-TE set. In 2004, he averaged 15.9 yards per catch, leading AFC tight ends and coming in second in the NFL amongst TEs.
Putzier (can we start calling him "Putz" yet?) is pretty tall, but not Jerramy Stevens tall, and pretty big, but not as big as a lot of the TEs we've been looking at in the draft. (That is, we fans, have been looking at -- who knows what the FO is thinking). Marcus Pollard was an inch shorter and 4 pounds lighter, so thats a decent comparison. In contrast with Pollard, however, Putzier did not live through the Great Depression.
